GalTrek™: The Galaxy and The Prometheus

GalTrek™: The Galaxy and The Prometheus

Star Trek Ship Hulls for GalCiv2

The Galaxy and The Prometheus

(Click thumbnail images for larger version)

Polygon Count (triangles): 4,888 / 6,882
Defuse Mapping: None.
Light Mapping: Everything.
Normal Mapping: Nope.
Ship Builder Hardware Mounts: Yep.
In-Game Hull Size: Large.
Time spent "making it so" : 1 hour / 2 hours.

Here is my obligatory conversion of the Galaxy class, along with the Prometheus. I admit that I have been struggling with lighting as of late. I just can’t seem to get the lighting quality that I want for these hulls.

Those of you who are planning on using this hull pack, please go here and submit my form so that I can track how many people are into this sort of stuff.

I am trying to keep the lighting consistent between the hulls, yet add enough character to each model to set them apart.

Also, I am desperate for more ideas for Huge Federation hulls. The Galaxy and Sovereign are clearly the largest ships in the fleet. Check this out. There is really nothing else that comes close in the federation fleet. The Niagra is “Ew”, and the Ambassador is “Blah”. I guess I will have to go with a couple of non-canonical ships that would fit in that size category. I could always cheat and say that the Federation captured some Alien ship, and then use another race’s design. Don’t tell anyone.

Stay tuned for updates (use this form if you want to receive email updates when new ships are available).

Here is the list of ships so far:

An easy way to do links, also called Anchors in HTML, is like so (replace braces):
{A href="http://www.google.com"}Click here for Google{/A}

Which looks like this:

I will have an alpha test out soon.

AngleWyrm. I did my links using standard HTML anchor tags. Do they not appear properly for you?

You know, if one is going to discuss ships that weren't actually Federation ships, one should think back to remember that quite technically, the Galaxy-X class ship never existed at all. It was part of an Anti-Time timeline that Q created to test Picard, a timeline which failed to unfold, as Data pointed out at the end of All Good Things, and was completely destroyed when the Enterprise-D was destroyed.

Dont know if you like these designs but I think these are some cool designs http://www.shipschematics.net/startrek/images/federation/battleship_arkhammer.jpg

All but the last one could be a large warship, but even the last one you could always just classify it as one. This is a pretty cool one as well. http://www.shipschematics.net/startrek/images/federation/battlecruiser_phalanx.jpg

For another huge hull design...

It's not a ship that was featured in any of the movies or TV series, but it is in the Star Trek: Armada PC game: the Premonition.

At the least, it's definitely a huge hull--at least the size of a Sovereign.

There's the galaxy refit:

It's just the galaxy with another nacelle on it. A lot of the medium or large hulls could get bumped up.

What you could do is set the tech tree so you have to research the scale required to build the ship, then add some advanced ship propulsion technology or something else to limit what period the class is able to be used.

Hey if you are gonna make a bunch of ships, and then just dump everything, don't leave everybody hanging. Just release the things already, ether as x files, or the max models so someone else can work on them.

It's really been long enough already, specially since they aren't even been worked on.

No, he never released them (to my knowledge). Very unfortunate though, they seemed very promising. Maybe he will release them at some point but seeing as how there are 2 ST mods now and the fact that probably every ship he did will more then likely be in one of the mods there really is no point for him to release them ever. (assuming he ever comes back to it)

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but does anyone know if these ships are released anywhere? His work did look really good...

i will be using as many of these as i can as i am a trekkie, but for more ships i suggest you use this site. "www.ditl.org" as a Star Trek Database it is the best and most comprehensive that i have found so far. pictures for many ships
as for a specific ship suggestion, i suggest the New Orleans class Frigate, or the Defender class Destroyer. Both are high on my list of favorite ships.

To the best of my knowledge none of these models were ever released. It is a shame though.

Brian "Spleeze" disappeared around may of 06. I helped beta test the Prometheus model in-game, but I'm not sure if I have the model around anymore, other then that model to me, he didn't release anything else.

Hey Folks.

Spleeze here again. I'm surprised to see people still posting to these threads! I should fire some of these ships up in DA and see if the performance issues have been solved on some of the higher poly models.

People keep asking for "releases" so maybe I can put something out if there are enough people interested.

Anyway, cheers everyone! Looking forward to the new GalCiv Expansion!

*THUD*

Spleeze, there are many of us interested...i do heope you find the time to release these models...they are awesome and i can't wait to use them!!!

Glad to see you around!

Hah! Hey boys (& girls)!

Nice to see that I'm still welcome!

Ok, well in that case I guess I had better get back to work on these ships! Sorry for being so out of touch. The past many months have been very busy for me, with the starting (and eventual selling) of my software business, and having become newly employed for a New York based company, I haven't found much time left for the ships, much less getting to play GalCiv! I get less then one game of GalCiv in every two / three month, and that's just wrong.

Actually, what would be best is if someone could collaborate with me to get these ships into some sort of "mod" structure. I started the research and building the XML files, but I would rather not have to fiddle with the modding stuff if I can avoid it and it would help me get these ships out the door more quickly. Also, it would be really helpful if someone were available to get my ships in their current raw form, and do some performance testing with them. They won’t be in any mod form yet, so you will have to know enough about GalCiv config files to put them into the game yourself, as I don’t remember exactly what was involved, so I am unable to write a tech manual, but it was not all that hard as long as you are somewhat tech savy.

Basically, I want to release what I have (the ships listed as “finished”) in some user-friendly form, but I can’t really invest much time into it myself. The ship models, textures and mount points themselves are setup and ready to go, but I need a modder / tester to help me out. So, if you fit into either of those positions, give me a shout, and we’ll move things forward.

And now for my obligatory Plug…

I am an Adobe Certified ColdFusion Expert looking for ColdFusion projects, or people wishing to have web applications build around an existing business concept. I am currently building a large scale web application to completely automate the process flow for a Law firm, including automated document generation, task delegation, etc. If you have a business for which an automated and structured process manager would be valuable (almost every service business) then drop me a line!

Cheers folks!
