Minor gripe with Tech Trading

Are they kidding me!??!

I have a very minor gripe when it comes to the AI and tech trading.

When you get into the latter game, and you have a few very low level techs that you have yet to research, the computer seems to get it into its head to ask for extra-ordinarily HIGH techs in exchange for these bractical no-brainers (You could probably reasearch 10 of them in a single turn if there wasn't a 1 turn minimum).

Surely even they wouldn't be so absolutely stupid to make an offer like that????

Its kind of insulting in a way that they wouldn't be more FAIR about what they will trade... Just as humans will keep only marginally upping the offer until they get the fairest option, surely the computer should do the same.

There is no option for us to go "Offer us more"... we either accept or reject. It would be better if we could tell them the offer isn't sweet enough so that they could start making it more reasonable.

I agree that it does seem a little odd when late in the game the computer will make a ridiculous offer, even if you have a huge diplomacy advantage.

"No, I will not give you majesty for missile defense theory."

There isn't a 1 turn minimum, leftover tech research goes to the next thing in the list. You notice this sometimes when research lines of tech you haven't invested in and its late game.

Yeah, as morberis said, it carries over. I think my best was EXTREMELY late game (11 years in) I had a lot of techs, and was working with Doom Rays. These were being countered, so I decided to research mass drivers. I got Mass Drivers itself next turn, starting from the thoery

What would be even better (note: not mutually exclusive. Both is good too) is if you could ask for something and say, "What would it take for you to give that to me?"

I have researched two techs at once. you jsut get the next one on the list auto picked.

So FrogBoy... any chance of a "Offer us more" and "What would you give me for X" options?
