STICKY: Getting the game Downloaded!

STICKY: Getting the game Downloaded!

Need help? Here's the place

Hopefully things will go smoothly for you to get the game.  But if not, here's a guide to help you..

First Steps..
When you purchase the game you will receive a link to Stardock Central. Download that.

Make sure you are running 2.29 or later (if you've been running Stardock Central for awhile, double check in the about box that you're not using an old version like 2.24).

Downloading
If you're downloading the game and it's slow, you can try a different server.  From Stardock Central go to tools->Settings and the server is in the "Internet" area.  We have several different servers.

Account Problems
If you used a different email address to purchase the game direct than what you used to create an account here, Stardock Central may get confused. If that happens, email support@stardock.com with the subject "GalCiv Account Issue" and they'll take care of you.  If you receive no response within 1 hour, post here and someone from Stardock will likely see it and take care of you here.

Download Speeds
The core game download speed will be slower than the multimedia/movies/tutorials because those are mirrored.  The core game is regularly updated so we aren't able to mirror it as much.  You should still get pretty decent speeds (and a reminder: try a different server if you find downloading too slow or if you get a time out -- bear in mind, there's a LOT of people downloading the game).

If you have problems related to actually obtaining/installing the game, post them HERE in this thread.

NOTE: Some anti-virus software will cause the installer not to work (i.e. it'll block Stardock Central from extracting/installing the game). If you run into an installation problem, try disabling some of your anti-virus setup temporarily to see if that resolves it.

Well, it's been another day and I still haven't received a response. Is anybody there?
Well I finally ended up getting the multimedia download. I ended up cancelling the download after every 5% copy it to a different location. The when it would reset to 0 I would copy the 'backup' file back in. Yea it was a complete pain and no we should not have to do this but the support on this issue seems non exsistant.

The finally answered my ticket with additional questions and have not seen response to them. This is not a way to build repeat customers.

What? You can copy the temp file to a different location? How and where?

So you mean, if I do this, I don't have to keep restarting at 0%?
I found it:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\sdcentral

So all I have to do is keep a backup of this directory, and no more embarrassing restarts?

Hi

I have been trying to download for six days now - not happy....

* There is a corporate firewall between me and stardock - this is my only way to download large amounts..
* I have the main and multimedia .sdc files - this took a few attempts but did eventually work , but cannot download the movies or tutorials
* I can download lots of other _small_ downloads from stardock with no problem.

So is someone from stardock going to look at my trouble ticket ? ref: LKS-696745
Can anyone else point me to someone in stardock who can give me help on this ?
I have lots more detail if required, but need to get a dialogue going to fix this one.

Thanks
Anthony

Well, there are two things I figured out.

1. If you copy over the temp files (as described above), you should be safe from Stardock Central restarts.

2. There is a new beta of Stardock Central available, that allegedly fixes the problem. You go to Tools->Settings and click the option that lets you download beta versions of Stardock Central, and then restart Stardock Central and install the new version.

Personally, I'm doing both (1) and (2).

I'm surprised that Stardock didn't post that here, in addition to finally answering my trouble ticket.

Well, I'm using 2.30a[b].184, build: 121 now. It still restarted on me.

Also, before I was downloading version 1.0X.009 and now I'm
downloading 1.0X.008 [rc]. What's up with that? Where did 1.0X.009
go?

Anyway, I found that exiting Stardock Central and manually copying the
partially downloaded file seems to work.

Actually, I can't get 1.0X.008 [rc] at all. I'm downloading the tutorials and multimedia now.

I doubt this is the proper place for this, but.. at this point.. Im frustrated enough not to care.

I've had nothing but problems trying to get this game. On the 24th (if my memory serves) I tried to purchase the game via the Download Only option.. several hours later of both my and my credit card company's time wasted, we got no further than 'the information you have put in is incorrect' screen at the end. Needless to say, frustration was mounting, and I sent an e-mail, as the screen said to, to the sales e-mail addy.. No biggie, I thought.. I'll just wait till it gets restocked at local stores and pick it up., or wait till I get a reply.

Then, on the following Monday.. my credit card had been charged, yet no response from the sales people, nor did I get any kind of e-mail with account info (I didnt have an account pre-ordering). So, I had a purchased game.. no account, no serial number.

I figured it'd just get settled when the sales people got back to me. Except.. they never have. No reply, whatsoever.

So.. figured I'd create an account, and ask for help here on the forums. Stardock is known for good customer service, so figured it was worth a shot.

Signed up with my main e-mail addy (that I'd tried to use when ordering the game). Worked. Except.. no verification e-mail was sent. I had made sure both personal and ISP filters that I could turn off were, indeed, off. Waited a day. Still no e-mail. So, tried to have a 'lost password' e-mail sent, just to see if it had, indeed, taken my e-mail addy. That e-mail was received almost immedietely. Still no verification e-mail, though.. which meant there was nothing I could do!

So, I tried with a second e-mail addy. Exact same problem. I figured, hey.. maybe its an isp thing. Called them up, spent a good eighty or so minutes chatting with them.. they said they never recieved the e-mails I was talking about, except for the lost password ones.

I've been driven to my wits end! Finally tried using a new hotmail addy to try it.. and it works! Now.. just need original problem solved.. been charged for the game, but no account info/serial sent. Its enough to make a girl cry.

Sorry for the rant-ish post, but this hasnt been a very happy experience..

I just wish I knew what I'd done to screw up what most people seem to have had no problems with.

Well, if your credit card was charged, that should be enough information for Stardock to track down and confirm your purchase.

I still can't get the game downloaded myself. I actually can connect. The problem is that the download program keeps going back to 0% on me.

I tried backing up the gc2.sdc file like the other poster suggested, and that still didn't work! When I replace the file, it downloads for a few minutes and then resets to 0% again!

My attitude is still not "Stardock Sucks". My attitude still is "They're going to fix it soon."

I have sent my email off to support@stardock.com so that I can get my "GalCiv Account issue" fixed but I haven't heard back yet. Probably due to the weekend.

In case anyone from stardock sees this and wants to help before monday morning, I would appreciate it. My ticket # is BIF-699240

Okay after reading a bunch of posts it seems no one, but me is having this problem. I cannot download Stardock Central! I get to the page where I log in with my account and that works just fine. It gives me a direct link to the sdcentral_setup.exe installation file, but I keep getting 'Cannot find server' page errors.

However, I am able to successfully ping the server the file is supposed to be located on 'sdc.stardock.com'. What is going on? I just tested downloading a few miscellaneous exe files from different websites to be sure I do not have some problem doing so. They all worked fine. I do not see how it is possible this problem is on my end... but please enlighten me.

Just ordered the game (Dig Download), but I can't even get the Stardock Software to download. I've used the link in the email I was sent, as well the validation URL from when I created an account w/ Stardock.

I keep getting a "the connection was refused when attempting to contact sdc.stardock.com" Alert message
Reply #90 Top
I posted a trouble ticket: IQP-678201

Being that the server is up (you can ping it) I wonder if they've been hacked.

hi i am having trouble downloading stardock central at the URL provided, http://sdc.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe
it is showing up as 400 Bad Request can someone please tell me if am missing something here?

I think I figured out the "download resets at 0% often" problem now. I think you have to turn off your antivirus software. Anyway, the combination of "back up the partially downloaded gc2.sdc file" along with "turn off antivirus software" seems to do the trick for me. I'm at 70% downloaded now, which is the furthest I've ever made it so far.

Thanks for the link Taimarawee - it worked just fine. I am downloading GalCiv2 now. Too bad I did not come back and check earlier, it could be done by now.

Hello,

I purchased the electronic download (no cd option) and my bank account was charged for the amount but I am unable to download anything. After step 3 (Complete Order) I received an error message:
"We’re sorry, but the webstore is unable to process your order. If you need your shipment sent to a different country from your billing address country, please contact sales@stardock.com."

I have emailed the sales and support divisions with a similar message I am typing here.
What needs to be done so that I can download everything I need in order to get started? I am also confused in regaurds to "the webstore is unalbe to process your order" and yet my bank account was charged for the advertised amount.
Any help would be most appreciated...
Thank you in advance,
Dreygon

Hi Citizen christian_s,
you can archive applications with Stardock Central. Then get a copy of the archive and of Stardock Central on you portable disk. At home install Stardock Central and get the application from the archive.
