I didn't hear THIS http://www.whitehouse.org/news/2003/012803-SOTU.asp version of the State Of The Union address.

hmmmmm......I was hoping to see more discussion My complete security setup: Ad-aware BitDefender E-Mail - All read on-line to protect against viruses Norton Anti-Virus Proxomitron RegProtect Script that deletes Cookies/Histories/Logs/Temp Files Spider Spybot Zonealarm I'm not paranoid........really <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smi
First, Bush Jr. isn't the brightest President that we've had...but, IMHO, he's doing a great job. Second, that wasn't a 'State Of The Union' address.....it was a "Declaration Of War" address
After the debacle with superwebsearch, I've installed a new layer of security on my computer. A program called Registry Protector, found here http://www.diamondcs.com.au/web/htm/regprot.htm . I've been using this program for a week now and find it to be quite stable. RegistryProt is a 100% free, standalone, compact, low-level real-time registry monitor and protector, which adds another dimension to Windows security and intrusion detection. By monitoring important locations and keys in
For those who are unfamiliar with Winzip, here is a link to their website's online manual http://www.winzip.com/wiz.htm. Pay special attention to the 2nd bullet point under the heading of WinZip Wizard Benefits
Ken, taking clues from items others had posted here, I performed a system search on dll's. Found one that corresponded to the date I'd downloaded the logons from here. (adi.dll) Loaded it into a resource hacker. Looked through the gibberish (I'm not a programmer) and found a couple of references to superwebsearch. I then ran a registry search on that. Found 3 folders, and 2 entries in IE's folder, which provided the url. The entries also pointed back to the lcars2 file, which I downloaded
Jafo, I neither departed the scene, nor succumbed.......there was a weekend. As I've managed to find out what, and where, the scum came from....the nature of which negates all of your arguements, I suppose I'm still incompetent, eh?
The telecommunications act, is written to protect the basic rights of Americans from Police or Government entities. Communications, between anyone/entity and a company are public. Between individuals, these items are governed by the laws of each state. (Linda Tripp found this out the hard way) Even then, communication interception is subject of debat. I'll use the FBI's Carnivore, as an example. The FBI's Offical Carnivor Page http://www.fbi.gov/hq/lab/carnivore/c
Submitted for everyone's general edification. I've done some legwork and found a bit of info on the Scumware in question. It was written by superwebsearch.com, and is spread through downloads. It changes the windows configuration to enable Active Desktop, and installs a Search Bar ON THE DESKTOP, without first asking permission. It also changes the IE default search to http://www.superwebsearch.com/ie/ It's listed as adi.dll Not being an activeX component, it slides r
Wombat, that was a directory printout, not a history.
kthxbye, the cya wasn't aimed at you. You were the only one who bothered to pull up the files. You cleared all of them except the one that had already been found and removed.
Good job. One of you found the offending file and deleted it. Congrats all around.
Static, that was a directory printout. Not a history.
Cause they got caught with their pants down and are trying to CYA
>How's your Internet 'History' looking? Can we see a list of the last couple of dozen sites visited PRIOR to your 'problem' or would that be 'too revealing'?. After the mess with Micro$loths 'secret files' garbage was discovered with the release of Windows 95, all such info (History/cookies/files/off-line files) is scrubbed daily. Currently using 'Spider' to delete the secret index.dat files, daily......much easier than tracking down and deleting them through DOS as we used to have to
This should probably be under a different thread.....but as far as E-mail, even private between 2 friends is not private. Can you say Carnivore? Legally, E-mail is considered, in the U.S. at least, as no more private than a postcard....which can be read by anyone who handles it. This became even less of a privacy issue, in the fallout of 9/11.
Nope, grabbed them all here......I would surmise file date was altered by the scumware.....one of many such tactics employed such software.
As this file has not been cleared, or found hmmmmmmmmmmm......all of the evidence still points here.
>Yes, it is entirely feasible that you were elsewhere 'unsavoury' >and then came here to dl, skins, etc to pretty up the warez'ed >proggies. Why? Because we KNOW it happens....and there are many >more proggies being skinned by works here that are NOT 'free'. Morally and legally inexcusable
When you track down and clear the one file that kthxbye did NOT find, come back and talk.
Feel free to remove anything you wish. You have been invited to twice before. Not like anyone couldn't create new accounts in 30 seconds.
Company communications are not private. Ask any lawyer. Accuse me of downloading Warez again and "I" will have one teach you the meaning of Libel.
Since installing Proximitron, about a year ago, I've not seen a single popup/under etc.
kthxbye, if you will re-read his post, found all BUT one of the files. Thus he has NOT cleared this site. Perhaps one of you found the offending skin and removed it already. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
oh, wrt there not being a zip file in the list I provided. Thats because I had already unzipped the files, and deleted zipped archive. I don't know which of the files were zipped, only that there were 10 or so of them. I had already run the recycle bin through my 'Shredder' program, thus I cannot pull them back up to see the original zipped files. This is clearly stated, several times, throughout the thread.
