I bought Tropico 3 today by clicking the link from the promotional email, something I never do but it was a good deal. So I paid with paypal and thought nothing of it. A few hours later I opened Impulse and it isn't there. So I check the confimation email and it says: Step 2: Logon to Impulse using the (email address here) account information used during your purchase. The problem is, that ema
The initial release of 1.96 had that weapons bug you mention. CariElf had posted a .zip file to manually fix things that night since everyone who could post the update to SDC/Impulse was gone for the day. Yesterday there was another update that was the official fix for the weapons thing.
Cool. Can anyone open this map I made? It crashes when I start the game after selecting opponents (which should already be selected by the map): http://planetidiot.com/temp/c
I think his issue with it, is that the auto-pilot is sometimes thinking that the asteroid field is the shortest route...and it's horridly wrong.
The issue is on entering, and even after leaving, the asteroid field, my ships can only travel one space per turn. Permanently. That's their max moves left: One. Forever. Until you do the fleet trick I described. More bugs I've seen: -Korx show up on my stats legend, but they aren't even in the game I'm play

Same deal happened to me, I was just ranting about it in a bug thread. Same dea, the Krynn going culture happy and no one (but me) doing anything about it. But lucky for me the Krynn are all suffering from a degenerative brain disease because they can't wage a war to save their lives. Literally, because I'm slaughtering them with my flailing economy, weak science and the 3rd most powerful military in the galaxy (they're #1). The other AIs are worse I guess because as you say, they do nothing

I've noticed the game is fairly glitchy. Or am I the only one where if a fleet of ships enters an asteroid field suddenly it can only travel 1 space per turn until I break up the fleet through the fleet manager and rejoin them together? Once even this fix didn't work and I was forced to sell the ships. I loaded my game where I was researching advanced barren planet colonization or whatever (I had about 5 turns left) but when the game started I had ALL the various planet type colonizat

I'm confused about the title of the game (forgive me if this is explained in the story or something). Where's Sol in the game and what's the solar empire? There's 3 factions and no mention of earth or Sol (so far).

We're a minority I'll admit. Some people play chess by mail. I like to play Civ 3 by e-mail. I would very much like to play GalCiv 2 by e-mail, but it's clear that will never happen.

Well if the AI isn't building ships with survey modules, it's probably because it's assuming it has one from the start, but also this proves my point. If you start with one, there's no point in building any. This is the problem with the current set up. The AI never builds them, the player never builds them, and all the anamolies are gone by the time you can actually build the ship. Oh, on top of the fact that you start with a ship you can't build. It makes no sense.

Sweet. The game is MUCH more interesting without starting survey ships. I researched it first and currently have 3 survey vessels (built on cargo hulls) zipping around trying to nab all the anomolies before the computer decides to catch up. I never build survey ships in the normal game... this has added a whole new exploration phase. The colonization part was interesting too without that fancy ship you can't even build exploring everything for you. The computer focused on little

True play-by-email multiplayer is the only thing I think I'd pay for at this point. And yeah, I missed the survey again for this. But my friend would buy it too, and possibly this other dude we play Civ III multi with. I don't care about scenarios, and the things I think the game is lacking should be free updates (like an option to disable starting ships).

I would really like the ability to turn off the starting survey ship. It makes no sense... you can't build survey ships at the start of the game, so why would you have one? Plus I think it would make the tech race more interesting because you'd actually have a need to build exploration ships.

If I didn't like a game as much as they said, the last place I'd be is the fan forum for the game! It just doesnt make any sense to me whatsoever I'm pretty sure it's not because they don't like the game, but that they see areas for improvement. And they are posting here because the developers of the

There are some techs that are just pointless. They are just gateways to other techs. I forget which exactly, but look along the larger ships line (medium/large scale building) and you will see at least one tech that does nothing at all. Just get rid of it and make the next one take longer to research. I don't mind all the weapon upgrades, it's nice to get smaller ones and squeeze more stuff on a ship, but why do the old crappy ones stay

If you ships don't have any defense/attack, the ship modules will not 'assist' (Your Frieghters/Colony Ships/Constructors won't magically get any defenses...but your 2 beam/ 2shield Heavy fighter should get some assistance from the correct modules.) I don't see how it's magic that a nearby starbase eq

I brought this up ages ago, but nothing came of it. I'd like to see different sized moons at different orbit speeds/directions, and even the odd inclined orbit (rings too). It would give a little more graphical spice to the game. And it would not be "hella stuff for the computer to calculate". I could program it. It's easy. But I'm sure we'll get major bugs ironed out before anything like this ever happens.

Another solution would be to have an assimilation period after trading. You can only use a tech you got through trading after x% of the time it would take to reasearch it. It still saves you having to research it yourself, but prevents you from turning around and selling it, or even using it right away. I would like to see the ability to trade ahead of what you've researched (skipping techs) removed. It doesn't make sense that you could

The Scottilingamoids were getting their butts handed to them, so to keep some balance in the galaxy (and a nice trading partner) I thought I'd help him out without getting involved in the war. So I gave him a nice medium defense vessel... which he left hanging around my planet. I thought maybe it was a glitch, so I flew a medium fighter in range of the fleets that were harrassing him, but no, he just left it floating there to be wiped out a few turns
