Matthew, SLW, Theoden, Seeker, and Cari, The only thing I vaguely remember hearing issues about was to do with a firewall and submitting to the Metaverse. I have enabled XP's firewall....is this of any relevance? I am yet to reinstall Stardock, etc. Stupot

Hi all...been away for awhile. Well, I've made the big plunge and upgraded to XP...which means that I'm going to have to reinstall GalCiv from the disk and upgrade it from vanilla to the latestest version. Just wondering if there's anything I'll have to look out for re the XP installation?? BTW, did you think a worm (virus) could survive an upgrade from ME to XP, including a hard drive format and going from FAT32 to NTFS?????? :notsure: Well they can, because

I haven't yet tried it, but I think Leegleech's 'sfc' will just run the repair IE utility found in add/remove programs_Internet Explorer. To be honest, I'm a bit 'GalCivved out' at the moment, and I've just bought Neverwinter Nights which I'm getting into. Don't worry though "I SHALL RETURN". It just irks me thinking of my metaverse score degrading though.... :( Stupot
Not being funny but you should upgrade if you can to XP or downgrade to 98SE , both are better OS's, ME was made to appease the 'home' owners who felt left out by Windows2000, and as such has many 'undocumented features' ...
Yes, i'm aware that many consider it to be a dog, but to tell the truth I really haven't had any problems (apart from this one, which is ultimately of my own doing, by tampering with the registry). I will upgrade to XP eventually though.

Well folks, I AM a GOOSE :p :p :p :p Yes, I did have the star button turned off, or, I should say, the star button had turned itself off. Guess I was just to frazzled by my IE problems to think of this first, but to be honest I had forgotten about the button completely. Thanks for your interest and suggestions though. LeegleechN, I've just tried that and all I get is "can't find 'sfc'". (I'm running Windows ME). I am seriously considering a complete system
Sounds like you have the "show stars" filter unchecked.
Guess what...I woke up at 3 AM this morning with that very thought. I'm at work know, but I'll check when I get home. I had completely forgotten about the 'show stars' button, simply because I never turn it off. Funny that it should have turned itself off between games though. Hopefully that's the answer, and everything's cool. :)
Clicking on the Metaverse button locking you up sounds l

G'Day all.... After having just submitted my current game successfully tonight, I think I might have encountered a very large bug. I restarted Galciv, and commenced a new game. Well, that's unusual, there are no stars nearby and in range on the mini-map. Gee, I've never seen that before. Cntrl-N. Still no stars visible. Huh? Cntrl-N again. Ditto. Cntrl-N again. Ditto, but this time there is a minor Civ visible on the main map. Obviously For some reaso

Yes...at an earlier point I was allied with the altarians, but unfortunatly when war broke out between me and the arceans, it was terminated and I was at war with all 3. Just had a thought, I could purchase my way to an alliance with all of the troika and then bribe them into war with the I-League, but I fear this would be too expensive, and they would be disinclined to maintain a war in the long term. I have a game that I have given up on. It was my first with the 1.12 patch, so I had stepped back from my usual painful difficulty level to tough. To summarize, it is a tough game on a huge map. I made a good start by conquering many of the minor races planets, while keeping on reasonable terms with the majors. (The arceans have been worrisome though). The arceans, altarians and torians have formed a troika alliance, which seems to be rock solid. I occupy approx one third of th
I know which crossing you were at!!! Everybody gives up there and does a U-Turn.
Wow that's cool...thanks for the reply. Doesn't the 'net make it a small world? I have to add that my family weren't your typical tourists....gee for most Aussie families the US consists of LA & San Fran... We travelled throough all sorts of samll places in NE, and found that sometimes the most interesting places aren't necessarily the prettiest or most popular!! S
Once again feel somewhat compelled to explain to all the non-USA-based folks here, that November 27th in the USA is "Thanksgiving Day"
Thanks for the reality check, Runner! I read in the paper today about a soft drink (soda for the yanks) over there that was of turkey & gravy flavour (flavor). Apparently all 6000 bottles in the production run sold out. The flavour was described as "caramel, descending to lard". Makes me think of Dr Pepper, which has bee

A couple of games ago...I ended up with a class 50 planet :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: I had the 'green thumbs' bonus, I had researched all the planetary improvement techs, and I had received the galactic event where your planet improves in quality. Just wondering, is it possible to get a higher quality than PQ 50??? Stupot
If you develop a trade good and sell it to someone, can they resell that trade good?
Good question... But if they can't resell it, isn't that a good thing because you have the monopoly on selling it? AND when you buy a trade good, do you get the advantage it confers
I'm from Roanoke!
Wow...I actually went there on a family holiday through the US in '85. We only passed through, but what I do remember is that we stopped at a level crossing just before a freight train went through. All the cars behind us did a U-turn and drove off, and we thought, whats going on?? 178 wagons later, we knew ;) ;) . That's the only reason I can remember the name Roanoke. Stupot
