I have moved to a different computer and am not having the problem anymore.

Several of us are having a problem with sounds in the latest version. For me, everything worked fine when I first installed, but when I upgraded to the latest patch I no longer got any sound in cutscenes.
Well, at least I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm going to try a clean Win 98 Install and see if that changes anything. If not, I guess I'll have to play on another computer, though I was really looking forward to having it on my laptop.
Thanks for the suggestions, but I am still having no luck - no sound during cutscenes.
When GalCiv starts up I hear music, etc. but when the opening cutscene starts, the sound goes dead. When the cutscene is over, sound returns. I am running on a Dell Inspiron 5000 with a ESS Maestro 2E sound card, DirectX 9A. ONE WEIRD THING: I tried reinstalling GalCiv. When I started the game without patches, the cutscene music/sound was there. As soon as I updated to the latest GalCiv patch the problem was back. Any ideas?
