So, no one has any official comments on these minor version changes? Or why the entire download is required even though they are supposedly 'minor'?
Rainbow7
Any comments on this?
Any further information on those incremental updates? 1.0.013 --> 1.0.014 movies 1.0.042 --> 1.0.043 media 1.0.015 --> 1.0.016 tutorials And this would require me to re-download ~850 megs.
I appreciated the response from Yarlen, but would it be possible to get another official response on this issue?
So, why would I have to download the entire ~800megs for just an incremental update? There must be some better method than this. Is everyone ignoring them? When bigger changes are implemented, will I have to re-download the entire thing again? This smells funny.
I just noticed that there are small incremental updates on the media and tutorials. But to update them I have to download the complete - several hundred - megs worth of files. Is this normal? Shouldn't the update just download what was changed?
If I click on 'my posts', all I get are the few threads that I've started. Is this what's supposed to be shown? I would think 'my posts' should show all of my posted messages.
I'm enjoying the game, but I also think that a lot of these criticisms are spot-on. That said, having played GalCiv1, I knew what to expect. I think that there are several types of 4X games: those with more abstraction, such as GalCiv and Reach for the Stars; and those with a higher 'quotient' of detail for grognard-like players, such as in Space Empires. They fill, I think, slightly different needs.
Quite the opposite. In my experience with other 4x games, exploration can still be going on well into the game. But in GalCiv2, the stars/planets/influence being revealed from the beginning is coupled with VERY long range ships ... and that these two things together rob the game of its 'exploration' experience.
I was hoping there was a way around this, but I've had to download the tutorials before archiving the game.
How do you selectively archive the main program, audio, and movies into one file? I decided not to download the tutorials, but whenever I right click on the main program to archive it, the tutorials first start to download. Any suggestions?
Anyone have any insight into this?
I decided not to download the tutorials, but I want to archive and backup my game. However, everytime I try to archive the game, it starts to first download the tutorials. Am I missing something?
Yes, it's possible, but for the final validation you will have to contact Stardock by email for a special code.
Zip in Ottawa. We should change the name of this thread to 'the plight of Canadians.' No one knows anything at Bestbuy (their website doesn't even list it) or Futureshop. I don't ask at Walmart because they could be holding it in their hands and not realized it. EBGames 'says' Monday, but who knows.
Why be confused? We're talking about a difference in cost, plus extra money due to exchange rates, plus some people still prefer the cd install with absolutely no internet connection.
And do you think Canadian Walmarts will be getting the game (and the collector's edition, at that)? So far, it doesn't seem like it's arrived in Canada. EBGames and Bestbuy appear to have only ordered the regular edition.

I think some places, like Bestbuy or Future Shop will have the game for $40CAN+tax. I'm a bit surprised at the lag for the Canadian release, though it's in line with what appears to be happening in some place in the States.
It's not 'way cheaper.' In fact, it comes out quite a bit more expensive.
EBGames has just bumped it (again) to the 27th. Future Shop and Best Buy don't have a clue when it will arrive. Anyone having any luck?
EBGames has just pushed it to the 27th. Other stores don't have a clue when it will be in. Anyone else having any luck north of the border?
Bestbuy is telling me probably tomorrow, but maybe tonight after 5pm. Frankly, I think all those sales people are just guessing at this point.
Futureshop's website just updated their release date as March 1st. Hmmm ...
Has anyone found a copy in a brick & mortar store in Canada yet?
