Is there any way to tell what political party an AI race has picked?

Bluewulf, I've had the exact thing you describe happen when I invade a planet. So I don't think this is an AI cheat, just a bug that only happens under certain circumstances. Surely I'm not the only one who has seen this. It happened in my last game. As soon as I invaded there was a constructor in orbit. One of the planets was set to build a constructor and had no shields in reserve. The constructor was somehow completed right after I invaded.
This is just a bug not an AI cheat. I've had situations where I get the ship the AI was building immediately after invading a planet. It doesn't happen often, but I've seen it happen on a number of occasions.
I finally got a chance to do a write up of my game. My initial strategy going in was to do the following: - Avoid getting in any wars - Keep my military rating higher than anyone else to avoid extortion demands. - Get my alignment slightly to the good (around 55). This should help relations with the good and neutral aliens. The evil ones won't mind because I'm close to neutral. - Trade heavily with the evil races to get them to ally with me. This is
It's interesting to see the different approaches people took for this game. I was never at war the entire game. I won in Dec 2197, but I was unable to keep the Cardinoids alive. The Drengin were by far the most powerful in my game and I was unable to keep them from conquering the Cadinoids.
I finished my game before I read your reply so I didn't do any disbanding. I just emailed you my save game. I won in Dec 2197 with only the Caranoids being eliminated. This game was definately more challenging than the last.
Michael, I need clarification on one of the rules for the current game. The rules state: * You may not trade or gift ANY of your planets to alien races! Once you own a planet, you can’t get rid of it unless it is taken from you via military conquest or a cultural “flip.” My question is are you allowed to disband a planet so that it can be recolonized? I won't do this unless you say it is OK.
When I fall into a rut, it's time to try some totally different racial picks. I was using +1 speed for a while. Lately I've been using +4 sensors. If you haven't been putting anything into sensors, try it for a game to see if you like it. You'd be surprize at how easy it is to explore for good planets and resources.
ImperialGuard, Did you play evil, good or neutral?
I posted a write up of my game in the discussion thread. More people should try this GOTM. It is a very interesting scenario.
I had a relatively easy win after some good luck at the start. I was able to take out everyone with battleships. Below is the play by play. Colonization phase: I set spending to 100% with 80% military and 25% research. Tax rate was set to 50%. There are two other yellow stars in the starting sector. I colonize the closest on turn one. Earth builds colony ships. The new system builds a scout. My survey ship scouts north. When the scout ship is completed I send it s
I finished the game in one sitting yesterday. Michael I must congratulate you on the game set up. It really was a lot of fun. I don't normally play the war party so it was diffferent than my usual games. I actually did take some notes and could write up how the game went. Where would be a good place to post it?
I know that Brad has said that the AI knows where all the yellow stars are, but does it also know where all the resources are without having to explore? I heard some people say that it does, but I haven't noticed the AI having any advantage in that area in the games I've played.
It's definately worth it to try different starting abilities. It adds a lot of variety when the game starts to get routine. I've recently been playing with sensors set to the max. I had been play with no points there and the difference is amazing. It's also fun to try at least one game with diplomacy set to the max. I tried setting all the aliens to saintly in one game with the goal of getting an alliance victory before anyone was eliminated. I almost made it, but I could
You can declare war in a round about way. Go into the diplomacy screen and talk to any race except the one you want to declare war on. Offer to attack the the race you do want to declare war on. Submit the trade and your now at war. I did this once when I was trying to stop myself from getting a cultural victory and had no ships near the aliens I wanted to attack.
It's interesting to compare Stardock's approach to patches with what is traditionally done by game companies. In the traditional approach, a patch will address a large number of known problems and go through extensive QA before it is released. Because of this the time between patches is months. In addition, some bugs still get past QA. In Stardock's approach patches and updates are released often, but with minimal testing. It is not unusual to find a fix a day after a proble
The one time I played the War party it was a disaster. I placed all my points into military traits thinking I would conquer the universe. What I ended up with was a bad economy, low population and slow tech growth. Maybe I should have put points into economy.
I also have the problem where SDCentral wants to download the whole 80M game instead of the patch. The instructions below explain what to do except for one thing. I have downloaded the bonus pack as a separate file. Can I install the bonus pack from this file after reinstalling SDCentral or will that cause problems? "To repeat: Reinstall GalCiv from the CD and then reinstall SDCentral. It is the SDCentral setup program that does the detecting of what version of GalCiv is already inst
