If you go to the upgrade screen for a particular ship, you will see a little checkbox in the upper left hand corner which allows you to upgrade all ships of the same type.

Do you typically build the max number of econ starbases around your worlds? In my current game (large map, crippling diff, TA) I have gotten lucky and have 5 planets within starbase range, in another sector I have 3 in starbase range. I am tempted to just keep cranking out constructors and building economy bases, I don't see a diminishing return ...

I like the option to trade techs, I feel like with it turned off I don't have too much interaction with the various AI, but with it turned on it really seems to make the game quite a bit easier. I think partly because the AI does not value its unique techs nearly as much as it should. There are a lot of great 5% type global bonus techs you can get off the AI for peanuts, and they really add up after a while. I am not sure how aggressive the AI is about getting those techs from each other,

I had no problem getting the research facilities built (was up to maybe 500tp/turn from that planet), and I had done a decent job offsetting the cost with mostly econ worlds. I was able to keep the other players at war most of the game, but unfortunately the Drath got too many surrenders and were WAY ahead in military, there was no way I could field enough ships to fight the swarms. I probably should have focused a little more on being able to sustain a decent sized fleet, before

I started a new (TA) game as the Terran Alliance. The difficulty is crippling, with 6 opponents, large map. I settled a few normal worlds near Earth and a few turns later I notice a Purple star with a class 26 or so planet. I scramble to settle the planet, which has a precursor library (yay! 700% to research) and an approval bonus tile. I am thinking, should I just fill this entire planet up with research? Why ever take the population over 8b? Since population doesn't effect research, I c

I think I understand. So by the same token 'Economy' only effects your ability to collect taxes? The higher your Economy, the more you wring out of taxes. Research and Industry are completely controlled by base production buildings, and economy and population have nothing to do with either.

Is tax revenue (and economic bonuses) the only thing directly linked to population (other than being invaded etc). Or does your population produce research and production too? Or are research and production soley a function of buildings that produce a fixed amount of those things (and the few buildings that modify those fixed amounts by a percent).

Yes, I have this problem in my current game. It seems somehow related to all of my ships suddenly having 0 range. If I reload a save and click the turn button before I close the research menu sometimes I can play a turn or two more before it hangs up.

I have noticed during the altarian campaign that both the atarians and the enemy will stop building ships or pretty much anything else once I have built up some military might and turned the table. The odd thing is, in the last game the korx and the drath were still pretty strong, if they had continued to hammer at me they would have pushed me back. But both stopped making ships and just sat back while it took me literally 100 turns to build enough transports and culture bombs to take

On a medium map, all genius AI. Near the late part of the game I noticed that the AI was building dozens of starbases scattered throughout most of their home sectors and adjacent sectors (with no planets OR resources). Is there a reason the AI does this? It did make culture bombing and terror star building a little annoying since you can't build starbases within 3 parsecs of each other (except resources). But the cost alone of all those starbases seems excessive!

It just hit me as I slogged through the endgame in my latest gigantic Galciv effort, I have a ton of ships and it is becoming a pain in the rear to get them where I need them to go. How about adding rally points to the game? We could set a location on a map and then tell ships to go there automatically, maybe even make it a setting on launch from a planet. What would be even better is if the rally points could change, say I had 10 combat transports heading to Nav alpha, well if I chan

Overal logistical limits are a good idea. It actually opens up the strategic aspects of the game. You should probably include Map size to allow for more bases on big maps. You should probably also give the option of salvaging starbases back into some constructors (say 25% rounded up) because players would need to shuffle around their bases if they are up against the cap. For instance if you went from a very defensive stance to an all out culture attack you would need to decommision those defensi

From all my dealings so far with minor races, I haven't seen them ever colonize beyond their starting sector. I haven't ever seen them actively fight another player either, be it sending ships to attack distant sectors or actually sending transports to capture other worlds. Has anyone seen them do either of these? One thing they do seem to do a good job of is build trade guilds before I can >:( I think it would spice up the game a little bit if some of the minor rac

I am trying to get this straight .. 1) Does planet quality ONLY directly effect morale? Meaning does it not effect research, production, econ? 2) Does ONLY Morale directly effect how many people you can have on a particular planet .. as in below a certain morale rating people wont reproduce? Or is PQ a direct factor as well? 3) What does the number of people on a planet directly effect? Production? Research? I notice even when I offload millions of people production doesn't seem

When building ships, it used to be if you had auto launch selected, when the ship was built it would launch and the same type of ship would be selected for production. With the latest version, ships still auto-launch but i have to reselect what ship I want again. This is a pain in the rear on gigantic!

With no improvements, the class 18

The positive thing about alliances is the galciv seems to take them much more seriously than games like civ3. It used to annoy me to no end in civ 3 that I would bend over backwards to assist a particular civ for hundreds of years only to have them stab me in the back for no particular reason. What is the point in maintaining certain diplomatic stances throughout the game if the end game is always the same, ie. the enemy AI's banding together to attack you. It may not be the m

Gordeleth, I was led to believe that the AI was exactly the same from intelligent on up. So I assume the behaviors I see apply to all difficulty levels above. And so far I have won on intelligent 99% of the time. Now I do restart if I get a crappy location, and most of my games are played using the PQ bonus which is definately a huge crutch (PQ is very powerful -- imho). But the games really do flow in a similar way, which is in part do to my particular strategy. I a

Has anyone ever had the AI come back and win or present a challenge as soon as you were able to get above them in tech and military might? So far in almost every game I have played (intelligent - medium to gigantic size) If I can last long enough to get ahead by a bit, the AI pretty much leaves me alone and focuses on killing other AI. At that point it is trivial to culture bomb for the win. My last game I ended up pretty thinly spread, even though I had a lot of ships. The galaxy was g

Gordeleth, In my particular game, given that the Yor vastly outpowered me, it makes sense that they would be able to wreck me militarily. I don't think it would be impossible to play if the AI were tweaked to fight smarter, it would just increase the depth of the gameplay all around. Instead of easily turtling up against superior forces, you would have to be much more willing to use diplomacy and other strategies to save your skin. The flip side of this is that the A
