I had two pirate shipyards relatively close to one another. I sent out a fleet and destroyed one of them. I then proceeded to the second shipyard and tried to destroy it, but I wasn't able to engage it. I right-clicked on my fleet and left clicked on the shipyard but nothing happened, and no I wasn't out of moves. I tried for two or three consecutive turns without success and then gave up. I left a fleet there to pick off the pirate ships as they were created. Is there a reason why I

Thanks, but I found Arumba's playthrough using the Terrans. It has already helped a lot. I didn't realize how important it was to tweak Governing on individual planets. Before watching his videos, I was just doing it globally.

I've played games on the Normal level and won without difficulty, so I've moved up to Challenging. I'm not having much success so I was wondering if there are any playthroughs available at higher difficulty levels so that I might get some suggestions of how to approach the game at those levels.

Playing at Normal level as the Terrans, I didn't have any trouble at all. I was number one in power right from the start and could pretty much choose the path to victory that I wanted without much trouble at all. That being the case, I moved up to Challenging difficulty level. That's another story altogether, I'm down at or near the bottom in every game every time. When I meet the AI races, a couple of them immediately declare war, and I am soon overwhelmed. Does anyone have any h

This is a great game! However, I have one little pet peeve that I wish would be addressed in the next patch. Namely, it is too easy to accidentally click on the "Go To War" button by accident when engaging in diplomatic exchanges with the AI. It would be great if the human player were asked to confirm the decision to go to war so that these accidental decisions to go to war can be avoided.

I've been playing on a huge map with tight clusters and seven opponents. The problem isn't that the alien races are beating me to the planets that can be colonized. Rather it's that there just aren't that many in range. For example, in the game in which I had only five planets, there were only five planets that could be colonized, including my home planet, and that's after researching techs that gave me +1 and +2 range respectively.

I've played the first 150 turns or so as the Humans on a large map and seven opponents, just to familiarize myself with the game. The first thing that has jumped out at me is that it all seems to depend upon your start. I've had a game where I was only able to colonize five planets by that time, and I was next to last in the power rankings. In a couple of other games I was able to colonize a dozen or so planets and I was way out in front in the power rankings. I would prefer a more co

I've been playing Beta 5, and now Beta 6. My biggest problem is this. I can't seem to come up with a coherent strategy. I find myself researching techs in ad hoc fashion on the basis of what looks good at the moment. There are so many options that I find it almost impossible to formulate a game-long, overall strategy. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just bought and installed GalCiv2. I understand that it is still in beta. However, how am I supposed to know how to play the game? There doesn't appear to be a tutorial. Is there an online manual?

I have played over 600 hours of Fallen Enchantress and Legendary Heroes. It embarrasses me to admit it, but there it is. During that time, I have experienced constant CTD's, one out of every 20 or 30 minutes. I put up with them because I like the game so much, and without more information, I didn't think I could provide enough that would prove helpful in determining the source of the problem, though it did appear to occur during the autosave process. Well, I finally experienced a CTD

Stardock, when you click "Declare War" against another player, would it be possible to request verification before proceeding, perhaps with a screen that asks "Are you sure?". The reason I ask is because a couple of times I've accidentally clicked the "Declare War" button when I intended to click the "Make a Proposal" button. Of course, I can always reload the game, but that usually means that I have to replay some turns, which can be annoying.

I see where some people have 1.20 and Derek said that it should be available this morning, but my version of LH has not been updated like it has been for past versions. Is there something I need to do?

I have been playing for a while on the expert/expert level. When I first started playing on this level, I posted about it and got some good advice. However, the posters who offered the most advice, which was largely good, seemed to be of the opinion that you could win almost all of the time on expert/expert, without using Ctrl-N to get a better starting location and without reloading. My experience is that this is false. Your starting point is the single most important factor in the game

Last night I was playing a game in which I was upgrading one of my heroes using the Paragon spell every time I got 90 mana. I had a CTD and quit playing for the evening. This morning I opened my last save and continued playing. However, the Paragon spell was no longer available to me. It was not listed in the spell book. I checked the Hiergamenon to see if there was some explanation, but there wasn't one. What gives?

Thanks for the tips, guys. Merlinme, I've pretty much been doing what you suggested, except for #2, #4, #9. davrovana, I'll try using those custom-designed scouts that you suggest and see how that goes. I'm doing better in my present game, and it looks like I have a good chance of winning. However, that's because of a favorable map where I was able to get three cities up quickly, mainly because of the luck of the map, there were no strong monsters nearby, so I could use my arm

Yes, I can win consistently at the next lower level, and I understand what you mean when you say that's why they call it the expert level. However, there are those who claim to win without difficulty at the exper level, so I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I have read some posts here where people say that LH is not all that difficult at the expert/expert level. That hasn't been my experience. I have started several games at that level, and every one of them has gone about the same. I start with a city, either a town or a fortress, depending on the materials, etc. I would like to expand fast, but that's impossible because the monsters are too strong. As a result, I expand very slowly and carefully, eliminating the monsters and
