The pre-built ships included with each civilization provide the player what they need to play and win games. Custom ships on the other hand provide people with an opportunity to tweak ships to fit their play style. I personally play with a mix of both. I usually roll with the pre-built ships in the beginning and start tweaking my designs as I progress.

Thank you for reporting. I'll follow up with the team and ensure we have it on the bug list to be fixed.
Thank you for reporting this. I will pass it on to the team to review.
Love the detail on this ship. Well done!!
Thank you for reporting. We'll see if we can reproduce the issue.
Thank you for the feedback. I will get this passed on to the team for review. Additional balancing may be needed.
At this time you can see the sector you are currently located, but not other sectors you are connected to. Some additional exploration is required before you discover those. I will pass the suggestion on to the team.
Great design! I like the detail.
Interesting suggestion. I'll pass it on to the team.
This is very well done. The interface appears very straight forward and easy to use.
I'm not sure about scaling defenses based on size. If you take a colony ship or a battleship, they may both be the same relative size, but they are built for different purposes. This would make their defenses capabilities vastly different. Its tough to strike a balance between making the defensive bonuses straight forward, but also having enough complexity that its not unbalanced. The discussion is a good one.
It's an interesting idea. How do you limit "slotless" modules? Is there only one allowed per ship, or would the player be able to put as many as they wanted so long as they paid the construction costs?
Very nice guide. Thank you for sharing. I'm curious how much of this could be shared across multiple scenarios. Starting system and other attributes greatly impact what you can do from turn to turn, but I bet there's a number of things in this guide that can be taken as best practices.
The Mimot are a tough lot to contend with. I do know that we're continuing to balance the civilizations, but some can seem more powerful initially while they suffer in other areas. Even cute and fuzzy civilizations have their weaknesses.
This is a common occurrence in most Civ games. At the point of near death they decide they would rather be your colonists. Its better than going down with the ship, right?
As a fan of lasers I would personally like to be able to shoot holes through planets, but those are just fevered dreams. I will certain pass the feedback to the team so they can improve the balance. There's always trade offs with weapon types, armor types, etc. We have to make sure we don;t make them too powerful. [e digicons]:D[/e]
For the important question. Does Picasso use lasers, projectiles or missiles?
Thank you for the kind words! We are happy to hear you are enjoying the beta so far. If you have the time, I know the team would appreciate feedback on the bugs and balance issues you are referencing. Especially ones that are still occurring in the most recent version of the game.
Thank you for the kind words and constructive feedback. I will pass this on to the team.
Thank you for sharing this with us. Its a very insightful explanation. I am passing this on to the team for review.
Interesting ranking. What criteria are you judging them on, ease of play, ability to conquer, etc.?
If you know of any bugs that are persisting through the versions please let us know so we can get the logged, or ensure we are tracking them for completion.
Thank you for reporting this. I have sent it to the team for review.
Thank you for the feedback. The AI will continue to get updates as the game develops. Have you had an opportunity to play since the update today? I'm curious to see if that behavior has changed.
Interesting feedback. I understand what you are saying about the ship types, but I don't know that it would make things less restrictive that way. Would a way to measure the size of the ships help with the issue you are having?
