The same issue is happening with the DesktopX Weather Widgets. I have been using the Encounter Weather DesktopX Pro widget for years on my Windows 7 PC. It stopped working for me on Aug 29th. Apparently, AccuWeather has changed something with their subscription and the Stardock widgets were all getting the weather data using the same account. Is there a way for personal accounts to be created and used? Or are we just out of luck? Any advice or help here? Thanks -E-

I have been running the "Encounter Weather, version 1.0, by Stardock Design" on my Windows 7 PC for years. Today, I got a message that it "Can't reach Accuweather". Does anyone know if Accuweather changed their Web Service or their security policy to no longer allow weather widgets made for DesktopX to retrieve data? I know that years ago there was a huge complaint from weather information companies that prevented several Stardock objects and widgets from using their servers. Maybe Ac

FOUND IT!!! Even easier - there is an option in Fences that reads "Preserve my desktop layout by storing my Fences' positions on a per-screen-resolution basis". That does exactly what I needed. Sometimes you don't think of the answer until you ask the question. ~~Einy

I did a search, but can't see than anyone has mentioned this. My work PC has a 23" screen and at home I have a 19" screen. When I do a remote desktop from home to work, the icons get all smashed together. It is as if Fences is trying to preserve the same layout but it scales it down a bit. That I can live with, but the crazy thing is that when I get back to work the icons are still in the messed-up, smashed together layout. I have to manually put them all back to where they should be.

Maybe I spoke too soon. No, Zubaz is still a genius. But I have been having very odd issues with Fences lately. 1) Scrollbars don't fade away when I mouse off the fence area. This behavior seems to be related to making the fence area border visible. 2) Icons are being hidden. This is where the changing sizes of the icons helped before, but now I see that it is back again without my changing the sizes of the icons (CTRL+scroll wheel). I have a fence that is 1x4

Interesting - this was a problem with Fences on Win XP. There was some issue with the API calls that wouldn't allow Fences and XP to share the wallpaper control. This went away in Win-7, but seems like it is back in Win-8. Does Win-8 use WinXP API's? Maybe that is what the developers will say this time too. Maybe? Even with this limitation, I can't live without Fences on my PCs. Sometimes you need to take the bad with the good. --Einy

Hey guys, I was a Window Blinds customer for years, but then my discretionary income and PC started having issues, so I had to choose and it was my Object Desktop subscription that was on the bad side of the coin flip. That was over 2 years ago. I now have a newer PC (not state of the art by any means, but better than my last PC), and I want to install my applications from the Impulse/Backup files. I see that Impulse is now no longer a Stardock product. I installed it, and I d
I really wish that Stardock were not so in bed with MS.
I disagree - how else can a third party create applications that are so lacking in default Windows installs unless they have intimate knowledge of how the OS does what it does? I have seen some "ahem ... attempts" at skinning and tools to enhance Windows, but nothing I have tried comes as close as native functionality as provided by Stardock. Sleep away Stardock, make su

Actually - I have resolved many of those issues on my work PC - in fact, after running that SubInACL I got my WindowBlinds working great again. I am enjoying a beautiful desktop again after so many weeks of the Fisher Price WinXP theme. I'm wondering if maybe there is something in my .NET drivers that need to be upgraded/repaired. But instead of just installing stuff willy-nilly, I would like to review an install log for Impulse to know why it doesn't want to work. -=

Hey all, After much research and trial and error, I have gotten my WindowBlinds working again, but now the problem is Impulse. I uninstall it, reinstall it, and immediately it updates itself. [so far so good]. Once the update is done however, it crashes with the infamous "Stardock Impulse has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." No amount of rebooting or reinstalling has helped. Is there some log file that I can review to get more help

Okay - something positive for once this week. I was able to upgrade to IE 8. It took a lot of searching, but I found that the security settings on some of my registry entries were messed up. Specifically those relating to my PC's Group Policy. I found a script on microsoft's site for a tiny utility called "SubInACL.exe" I created a script for it, and it was able to reset my PC security to something useful. This was very good because several Scheduled Tasks that weren't abl

Well - the saga of poor old Einstein and the PC that wouldn't do squat continues. I only have IE6 on my PC (because for the longest time that was all our internal web app would support) but it can now handle up to IE8 in compatibility mode. SO I tried to upgrade my IE because that is what Impulse recommends. That won't install correctly because there are some registry entries dealing with local security policy that are missing or corrupt or can't be modified (whatever).</p

Ok - the saga of Einstein's work PC woes continues. I finally got the sfc command to finish, so I decided to reboot right then. When my PC came back, I opened SevenConfig.exe and clicked "About WindowBlinds" guess what, NO error message from Windows saying "the applicate encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." But it still said that WindowBlinds wasn't installed correctly. So I went to open Impulse and do the uninstall thing.

ok - I asked a friend of my on the help desk - and he "shhh don't tell anyone" got me a Win XP install disk. So I am doing the sfc command as I type this. After that is done I will try once more of the clean uninstall - reboot - reclean - reboot again - etc. before trying to install from archive. Let's keep the fingers crossed. I did have a help ticket, but since my subscription expired Anthony said he could no longer help me. I don't want you getting in trouble Sh

Okay - I tried the "sfc /scannow" command, but canceled it because it kept requesting my Win XP Pro install disk. This is my work PC and I don't have the install disk. The OS was installed from a "ghost" process, I don't know who around here would have the install disk. So that isn't an option. I did try the "chkdsk /f /r" and it ran on reboot - took like 2 hours. The summary screen flashed by so quickly I don't know what was "fixed" but I did see that "All errors have

This is not due to a HD reformat. I am loading from the archive because my subscription expired and I can't install it the "normal" way. I did try the system restore early on - but it happened way back in February and I don't have that many restore points (I reduced the number of restores to "save" space, at the time I didn't think I would need to go back 2 months for anything). Long story short - the system restore didn't work. When I tried it Windows said that the re

No - it is 32-bit. I didn't even know that 64-bit XP was a possibility. I tried a completely clean uninstall (uninstall, clean the registry, clean the WindowBlinds folders, etc.) and then re-install by using the "Restore from Archive" option. (it stinks having your subscription run out and you don't have the $35 to renew). That looked promising. Impulse asked me to reboot and everything. However, the same result. I can get the "SevenConfig.exe" window, but trying to appl

This is rather interesting:
Shift-Rightclick on Windowblinds and select "verify installation" - should then tell you Windowblinds is not installed correctly
NOPE - it says that WindowBlinds 7 is correctly installed. It is the "About WindowBlinds" from the dialog that reports that WindowsBlinds is not installed correctly. (could this be the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing?) I will try the repair installation. If my subscript

Hey all, With help from support I was able to get Impulse to restore from archive; however, now it will not load any skin. I can get the "SevenConfig.exe" to run - that's good. And it even sees my list of about 50 skins - that's nice. It can change the wallpapers, so I know it is functional. BUT BUT when I select a skin and click "Apply" it just sits there. Okay, to be fair, it does unload the "Win XP" theme and switches to the "Windows Classic" theme, but tha

I received a different impulse file to try to restore from. Although now I get the WB Config window, I still can't apply any skins. I'm thinking the auto-archive functionality on Impulse has issues. But then again, I also tried an impulse file from my home computer that didn't work. Hmmmm. Now, I need to find out why I can't get WB to load. This should be another fun adventure in navigating the support channels.
Support requested I share one of my archives via DropBox so they could look at it
Wow - that is better than me - support just told me that my archive must be corrupt and closed the call. (Without even examining the archive file). I'm trying to be patient - I'm trying to be patient (Tell me again why I should renew my subscription?) Please, someone help me relax before I go postal on the community.
