Actually, single-malt was a topic I wanted to bring up since we posted all of our clan crests earlier. Of those who like single malt, what's the best you have ever had, and what do you prefer for your normal drinking single-malt? The best whiskey I ever had was (don't shoot the messenger now) actually an Irish one, called Midleton's Very Rare. It was exquisite and had an element in it that hinted of peaches. I'm not an every-day drinker, but my wife gets me a bottle of Oban every

@Motti - Thanks! To Everyone: More tips have been posted to the Twilight Pub forum. You can find them here: http://snarceanempire.proboards.com/index.cgi ? Good Hunting!
SolusLunes, congratulations on making your way to the finest club of GC2 scoremongers! Here, have one of my Altarian slave girls and a double serving of Kzinti nuggets as a welcome gift. [e digicons]:D[/e]
Look what you can do after drinking several beers in the Twilight Pub...
Snark, you can have a 3 day million pointer game. I just did one. You'll find plenty of clues in the Twilight Pub web page that will help you to do so. I believe this is the all-time high score on TA. I achieved this without building a starbase array. Now I'm going to go back and build a SB array to see what type of overall difference it will make in the score. I'd like to figure out whether the time invested into a SB array in TA is worth it. <img src="htt
I'm close to you with this current game...I'm at 773 at year 2. I got the econ event earlier than normal for once, about 30 months in. I'm not going to build an SB array though so we'll see where this one winds up. I hoping for 1.1 million+
Yep, that was throwing me off. Doing that in 24 months is certainly achievable, doing it in 12 was going to make me whimper in fear.....
Waaaaiiiiiiit a minute......KP, are you saying you own every planet save one at the end of year 1???? How?
Cypher, shhh!!!! Motti might hear you! Seriously though...what's the best score for the two year mark? I had 455,500 in my last game. I just got to that point in my current game and it's a lousy 383,000. The real bummer is that I thought I was doing better this game. My planets are mostly fully populated, everything is tiled in stock markets, I got the SCC ealier than I ever had before abd got nightmare torpedoes in record time. So I'm with you Seth, this feels like epic fail. <p
Go get 'em Seth!! Geckodons may be green and scaly, and not taste so good, but you are fearsome warriors!
What is Demigod? Issue 6: fix secret police center Issue 7: several of the colonization techs are worthless ot the AI, forget which...I think Barren world and radioactive world....yet the AI chrages out the wazoo for them and they value the other three just fine. There is coding big in there. Issue 8: give us control of what planetary structures we keep in the "new " list and which in the "old" list...I'd much prefer this to be "preferred" and "secondary" lists. <
Ser Arris, how the heck do you play a giga game in two days? That's impressive....it takes me that long to click 5500 planetary tiles full of structures let alone all the other things one has to do. I'm amazed. That is a very nice score for a two day effort, good job! Also, I heard from SS that there may be a link between etreme planet frequency and random event frequency....i.e. if you set extreme planets to "rare" your random events may also happen on a "rare" basis even though you
Actually I didn't put it forth as a rule. I politely requested that gm00nii adhere to more conventional formatting and I went some lengths to explain why and to do so in a friendly, non-judgmental way. This was actually done for gm00nii's benefit. There is a place for colors and non-standard fonts where they are used to highlight or underscore meaning...but when used randomly they are more akin to strobelights and random noise. It actually makes communication harder. Within my original p
Well said particlewave. I often find Galciv calming when life's stresses are mounting too. It can be a nice refuge...I think it's that way partially because every round you can accomplish concrete and discrete achievements whether colonizing a new planet, capturing a resource or whatever. I like accomplishing things and Galciv serves up a little appetizers throughout the game and, of course, a sumptuous repast when you finish a long game and do well.
GW, my game would freeze in Vista if I left it overnight too. However, I switched to playing in windowed mode (still looks like full screen though which is nice) and I don't have the lock-ups anymore.
Gmoonii - sigh. Listen, I asked very politely. I don't really know who you are, where you are from, if you are a nine year old girl or just some annoying troll. If you are a child then please listen...I am a father and I have a nine year old girl. I have given you the benefit of the doubt, just in case you are a nine year old girl, and I will do so one last time. I am going to speak to you as a father. It is rude when someone asks you politely to behave in their house and you tell them t
Good advice Mottikhan. If I can't trust SS and Mumble though then I don't want to play anymore. BTW, huge congratulations on that 198,450 score for a ZYW....that passed without much fanfare but trumpets should have been blown, confetti should have been thrown and we all should have known that you would crash through the ceiling on those just like you did on the long games. When are you going to take your rightful place as the top predator in the MV? I feel like a fraud sitting on your number
I could email you guys the two game saves if you are interested.
Good point Dys. There are times when ignoring convention in language can be interesting/engaging/purposeful or simply powerful. There are other times when it can be distracting and bothersome. In the current world of literature there is a fellow named Charlie Huston who is cranking out some powerful novels that redefine formatting in ways that I think are an improvement over conventional usage and very effective. Cormac McCarthy also disregards convention and writes passages that are powerful
I couldn't agree more Dys. Congratulations Motti!
I just found this thread...sorry for my late arrival! I don't know how to post a screenie of my million plus scores. I think I have three of them now. If someone would like to do it for me? I keep ranting, and I'm sure some people are sick of hearing me say it, lol, but I think TA has as much or more scoring potential as DA. All of my million plus games were TA v2.02 and I didn't build a starbase array or use an upgrade strategy in any of these games. I may have to break down and actu
I use Opera and like it quite a bit. It may be a little faster, but it sure is smaller and takes up less disk space. It just feels friendlier too. There are a few sites that require IE so I still have it on the computer (so the smaller footprint of Opera is irrelevant).
Great game Snark! I'm working on my write up now.
Gm00nii - why do you change the color of some of your words to red? May I offer some unsolicited advice without offending you? A lot of us, I would even venture to say all of us, find this disconcerting and offputting. I think you would have a better reaction from the people on these forums if you would simply post your comments as we do....using the default settings. I know I would very much appreciate it. Individualism has it's place but so does convention. There are conventions for co
Thanks Snark - give me a little while tomorrow, lol! @Gm00nii - Thanks for the compliment! Don't feel like you lost your place though...the Twilight Pub isn't supposed to be a traditional empire, just a neutral happy place all empires can come and test TA theories and have fun. So in empire rankings the Twilight Pub doesn't count. I'm still a big evil ToE!
