Well, I suppose that, after 40 pages, most ideas have been coveed... I just want to bring the agility during combat issue again. I had read discussions before where it was proposed as a way to make smaller hulls more useful, but the concensus was that it's not possible without a radical redesigning of combat mechanics. But maybe, for GC3... So, I think using a percentage-to-hit factor in combat would be a welcome improvement. it could be influenced by hull size, making small hulls mor

I'm not sure, but my guess is this: The Dread Lords are gone, the Arnor transcend away taking their technology with them, the rest of the Galaxy is left devastated and all civilizations try to struggle from scratch. The Drengin and other evil civs retreat to their core planets to lick their wounds and regroup, while humans, altarians and the rest of the surviving civs try to repopulate and rebuild the desolation left by the DL and the Korath. That's when a new, yet unnamed menace enters the s

Yeah, I finaly figured it out... If all I can do is make my homeworld look like it's oceanic, I shouldn't have messed with the terrain and planet description at all, just use the default custom and only replace the .png image. Otherwise it messes the descriptions (probably), and the game crashes. I hope you'll find the time and patience to create a fully moddable homeworld, when and if it's possible. The display in the other thread was great. Looking forward to having c

I was toying around with the conglomerate mod, and I wanted to see if I could start with a fully aquatic race (able to colonize and exploit aquatic worlds completely from the start). For some reason, however, it won't work when I try to create an aquatic homeworld for my race's entry in the custom planets file... Do I have to tweak something other than the gfx files, or do all homeworlds have to be earthlike? If so, can the planet at least look like an aquatic one? Sorr

My 'special role' ships are almost identical to rawghi's- Explorer drones, Sentinel drones and Orbital platforms: The last range from tiny (satelite) to huge (Space Fortress). I also used to have a "kamikaze drone", a cargo-hull engine platform with moderate firepower (relatively cheap), designed to destroy a Dread Lord scout with one strike in older games (dying in the process). Now I use it occasionally to intercept and pick out unprotected transports. Also I sometimes use the 'mili

If it's got Vasari colony pods, quite a lot (but perhaps in cramped conditions- say that the Spartan-like Vasari don't seem to mind). If without colony pods, the Vasari should have the least number of people- in fact, it wouldn't be bad if you could have only a few dozen personnel, all wired up and connected to the various starbase systems, mostly organising and giving orders, with automation and nanobots doing most of the work. TEC should have quite a lot of personnel, with many invo

You know, it would be great if we had a strategic choice between nuking a planet and occupying it. Nuking would be much easier and faster, but result in a planet with zero infrastructure anf pop, and extremely low growth rates- mking it a burden to colonize and maintain. Strategic conquest, on the other hand would take more time and resources, but result in a planet with only diminished health and population (or even a level of infrastructure intact). It would make us choose between a "scortc

First of all, you are confusing astronomy and astrology. Astronomy is the study of planets, moons, stars, and other celestial phenomenons. Astrology, on the other hand, is a psuedoscience that tries to discover things by studying the positions of ce

Um... I don't think you can make such a comparison. Repair platforms can repair just about anything. Perhaps they will be able to focus in repairing your experienced capship to keep it standing long enough for help to arrive, or help your not-fully-upgraded starbase hold off an enemy fleet by itself as your fleet is engaged elsewhere. How many assailants is that worth? IMO, you should build at least two in any defended planet. In choke points and heavy defenses, three or even

If it's just capitals, then not even 10 sovas will be enough. You simply NEED strikecraft. Even the upgraded flak burst of 5 kols won't be enough against carrier spam (or simply a carrier-heavy fleet), especially if it's you that's attacking. And the cost of rebuilding a lost capital ship, plus all the XP required, is just too much compared to the enemy just replenishing their SC. You won't stand a chance. Now, you could have a fleet where the basic attack force is capship-only, if yo

Dominated ships have the tendency to follow the enemy's retreating fleet for some reason, even though they are not a part of it. After making it yours, give it a "stop" order- Works most of the time. That's not the only wierd behavior of dominated ships: They quite often form a single-ship fleet, the minute they are captured. Never figured out how that happens.

Yeah, Space Empires 5 now seems pretty awesome, but only with the latest patch AND the great mod made by a fan (Balance mod, I think.) I haven't tried it yet, but most say it brings back the feeling of immense freedom of options that was the best part of SE4, plus a decent AI and only a few minor bugs. I'll try it when I have the time. Unfortunately, MOO3 never did it for me, even with the mods. The game just doesn't feel fun to play. :(

Everything after the second stage is pure garbage, so it doesn't really matter. Seriously, the Civilisation and Space stages are a joke. I've seen online flash games with more complexity and fun in their gameplay.

Yup, another MAJOR disappointment. All those promises, and what we get is a kindergarden sandbox. And they say that the potential for a great game is STILL in there, hardcoded, but EA wanted to tone it down and make it more 'light'. I seriously doubt whether anyone bothers with Spore anymore, other than to design weird and silly creatures and vehicles. At least that part works well as a stress reliever from work- somewhat like the ship designer of GC2, but without a goo

[quote who="nixiepixel" reply="3" id="2084274"]Yeah.. Rome Total War is so much better. (especially modded) As far as my memorable game let down, that's easy. THE DEATH OF ADVENTURE GAMES. Where's the Grim Fandangos, Syberia's and Longest Journies of the world? Oh how I miss them. I just found out that Mirrors Edge won "Adventure game of the Year" and I'm thinking 'WTF, they've butchered the adventure genre i

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but... I had an allied AI surrender to the enemy, as they were being ripped apart while I was occupied in an all-out confrontation with the most powerful enemy AI. After my victory, I started to regain the planets occupied by the enemy, including those my surrendered ally had. I finally recolonized a planet in which most of the defenses of my ally AI remained intact... And saw that the number of logistics/tactical slots was down to

What I'm not that satisfied with is the Advent sb. Not in regard to texture- I think it has the best texture from the three- but about its overall shape: It looks somewhat unfinished, like it's missing something. Maybe with more radical visible upgrades...
