Thanks for the replies. Both you guys are clearly playing at a much higher level than I am. I try to fine tune my sliders and my improvements but I'm not at a level where I'm going to be playing Suicidal anytime soon. Anyway, to the subject at hand: I finished out the game referenced above, where the Yor hadn't moved and where my Planetary Invasion cost jumped suddenly from 17 weeks to 33 weeks. Thanks in part to a more fortunate starting position I was able to hang in there and

I'm playing the Altarian tech tree. I had posted a big Wall of Text above so I don't blame you if you missed it. From reading the forums I've gathered that tech costs have generally been increased. That's fine, I don't mind never going to the end of the tech trees again. What I mind is not being able to even make it to 2nd tier. After my post I started a 4th game and was able to observe the precise change (this time, anyway). I am more certain that this is in fact a bug. Befor
Hi - I'm not sure which branch of the forums would be most appropriate for my issue, so I'm posting under ToA both because I imagine it has higher readership and also because I am currently playing the latest version of ToA (the supposed "final" patch to the game released around the end of '08). I'm only really now beginning to play again after having taken some time off and I've noticed something very frustrating about reasearch. I've noticed that nearly every tech in the gam
Hi, I felt sure that someone would have addressed this by now, but after combing extensively through the forums I haven't turned anything up. I'm trying to figure out how to move my custom ships from Dark Avatar into Twililght of the Arnor. When moving from GalCivII to Dark Avatar, all that was necessary was to move the two ship file types - the XML doc and the .shipcfg file - from the Ships folder of GCII to DA's Ships folder. I've done that for TA, and also moved the files for my
I'm having a similar problem with the game, and want to know if anything can be done about it, aside from the rather drastic suggestions made in the OP. My more complicated ship designs seem to soak up a lot of memory - battles look like stop action animation, and I more or less have to spend the whole game in tactical mode. Here's the thing: I know this is a fixable problem because many of these complex ship models worked just fine when I made them! Something has happened over time to
It sounds as though you're a giant swatting at flies. Sooner or later, you will be nickel and dimed to death. While pursuing better diplomatic relations with some of the races is a good idea, some aggression would help too. In my experience, trying to build up trade won't work too well because your enemies will just flit all over destroying your freighters, but everyone likes a bribe. It's hard to make recommendations without knowing what your economic and manufacturing power is, but here are so
My two cents: economy, economy, economy. I was playing as a militaristic empire with all the associated bonuses (except I took an econ bonus, too) and as the War Party. I died. I reloaded, kept everything the same except used the Federalist party, giving me an overall 50% econ bonus. I won. Lesson learned: econ is THE most important stat, particularly in the early game. The tiny little bonuses the War Party gives to your military power aren't very significant, if you stop and think, especially i
I couldn't wait - I tried what you said, and it worked! Didn't realize that Metaverse kept a separate ships folder. I completed the game on cakewalk, but because of a serial number problem, it wouldn't upload to Metaverse. That's another problem for another post, though. It didn't say anything about me cheating, although I can't say if that would happen before or after the uplink to Metaverse. But so far, so good! Since it was a cakewalk game where I crushed the hapless Thalans in about 10 minut
Ok: My first metaverse problem got fixed, but now I have a new one... When I signed up for Metaverse after loading DA (I never used metaverse while I was playing DL, for no good reason), it wouldn't accept my DA serial number, so I used my DL one. I just finished my first Metaverse map in DA, and naturally, Metaverse doesn't recognize the serial number and won't upload the information. Question: how do I change my serial number to my DA one? I think the issue is that there was
Thanks for the tip. I'll wait around and see if Stardock reps have anything to say, and if not, I'll do as you suggest.
I'm playing DA, and logging onto Metaverse for the first time. I never used it with DL. Anyway, I start playing my first map for Metaverse logging, and I notice that none of my custom ships are showing up in the shipyard. None of my lovely, charming, custom ships which I slaved over for many many hours and are 60% of why I play the game. Can someone tell me what is up with this, and how I can fix it? Thanks!
i've moved my ships from the DL ships folder to the DA ships folder, all XML docs, but they still don't appear in the game at all; neither do my added logos and portraits. what more do I need to do?
Can someone let me know how to move my custom ships from DL into DA? I'm afraid I'm illiterate about these things; I know they need to go from one folder to another, but which one?
i just realized, i did use a different email, so that is likely the problem. i'll send an email to support. i'm really kicking myself right now...
I received an email from sales with a serial number in it, thanking me for my purchase. the link in the email caused Stardock Central to run. I could see Dark Avatar in the update tree, but it had a big "purchase" button there... What does this mean for me? Does the site think that I haven't paid for it (I have, or I wouldn't have the email from sales)? Or is it simply not available to me yet? I was one of the pre-order people, not a beta player. I'm a bit confused, because the update to Dread L
