I am a previous purchaser of GC2 and the first expansion, but I've held off on getting Twilight after reading about the research bug, which apparently suddenly boosts research costs and looks like a potencial game-breaker for the large maps I like to play. Any word on if/when this is going to get fixed?

Thanks, that worked. Wish it was a bit more obvious though
I'm using Stardock Central but when I click the "Update" button on the line that says "Dark Avatar (Expansion Pack) 1.50[Installed] 1.61.090[Available] 6/19/2007" it just brings up a browser and displays the GC2 downloads page, which only lists the full games for purchase. How do I get the 1.61.090 update?
This thread is now shortcutted to my desktop
Actually, let me correct myself: Comabt Has changed. Capital ships are now much more leathal... But the shoot first and kill everything before the other fleet can respond tactic was done away a long time ago. I give myself half credit I'm glad capital ships are more le
Sounds like good stuff.
Installed through Stardock Central and V1.1 works fine. Hoping we get an updated list of hotkeys .
Really neat app. Thanks for your work, Chris.
We had this question come up on our OO forum.... If you research Stellar Cartography you can see the planets on the mini-map (otherwise you only see the stars). The question is, does having more planets in a system increase the chance of a habitable planet, or is the percentage the same no matter how many planets there are? In other words, is it worth heading to a system with more planets because the odds will be better for it having a habit
This could be implemented in two ways (or both!) When building the 3D models in the ship designer, the color selection options for ships that you normally can only adjust when setting up the game could be altered and tied to a class. I'm wondering if this would cripple the 3D engine on the main map however.... Alternatively (and I like this <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle"
Actually I think it should be that as the game progresses the smaller ships become less valuable, even when grouped, versus the larger hulls. This makes it worthwhile to go to fewer and larger hulls. Otherwise on large maps you end up with swarms of small ships to track and upgrade. Making it worthwhile to upgrade, research bigger hulls and better weapons and higher overall techs also makes the later ("end") game interesting. Otherwise you just keep s
If you go to Sensor Mark IV you can build the Eyes of the Universe. Once built it will clear up any fog around your planets. The need for sensor ships will become moot. You can get it early if you have enough research labs because the turns are not that great for researching it. It's the way to go on
We plan to add a lot more goodies to the ship design screen so there are more options. All we can do is have it behave in the way that annoys the fewest number of people. Thanks Brad. I didn't want to sound like a whiner, but this change really did make it more work to play the game well. Perhaps I have an unusual play style. I tend
I posted the following in a thread on the main forum, but since it's related to the new patch it probably should go here. On the main forum it's already slipped near the bottom of page 2 in two hours and so probably will never be seen again! "I hate to be contrary, but I'm not so sure I like the new method of upgrades. Before when you selected "Upgrade" no components would be removed, but after the latest patch selecting "Upgrade" will remove all but the jewelry. Supposedly this was b
I hate to be contrary, but I'm not so sure I like the new method of upgrades. Before when you selected "Upgrade" no components would be removed, but after the latest patch selecting "Upgrade" will remove all but the jewelry. Supposedly this was because some people had difficulties finding and removing the non-jewelry and the linear strip (below the 3D window) that displayed the actually components was somewhat erratic. My problem is that sometimes I'm just doing an upgrade to, for i
I just got my retail pre-order GC2 which sadly was the vanilla. Since I previously had pre-ordered and bought the downloadable version I already have all the CE content, and now I have the printed manual. I don't really care about getting a printed tech tree, since I can print out my own from the BMP version that's been posted. What I would like to see is an official downloadable tech tree that is kept up to date. I have seen posts that mention there are some errors in the BMP version
You need to post this over in the bugs forum. I haven't heard of it before, but there is a patch in work for this week, maybe it's already being addressed.
"I ran the current site through a colour blindness filter and it seemed to do OK. The three kinds of link could be distinguished through brightness levels. Of course, it may not be a perfect simulation - are you colourblind yourself? If so, what parts are hard to see?" First of all, kudos for you for having used the filter! That's very thoughful. No, I'm not colorblind but I wo
I don't think of this as an AI cheat since everyone, human and AI, benefits from tech trade. I think I'm too gullible with the AI in trades as well, so that I'm doing their research for them, but sometimes they are so far down a branch I haven't even started it seems worth the disparity in the number of items. Also I've gotten a response from the AI when I tried to trade him two items on the same tech branch, saying in effect that there's no value in getting Widget III if I'm also off
I would make one strong suggestion. Please use the standard wiki text and background colors! It not only looks ugly but can be hard to read for people with some forms of color blindness, which is a lot more prevalent that you might think.
Roscoe-OO, did you try Walmart? I know that people think that they're evil, but they're supposed to have all collector's editions I tried three of them on Saturday. I'm still having the shakes from being in so many Walmarts in a single day . B
Wait.... Research Bonuses don't do anything??? So there's no value in building starbases on research resources?
Great, now not only can I be depressed about not finding the Collectors Edition in stores, now I can feel worse that I'm also missing out on the chance for a t-shirt!
I already printed out the manual and the tech trees (I have a large format color printer ) so that's not a problem. I recognize that it's just a game and not Real Life worries. I've got all the digital content (I got the DL version earlier this week and upgraded to CE electronically). Since I can print my own manual and tech tree I've got all I need. It's just the principle of the thing. I h
Frankly it may seem a little petty compared to the problems some people have had, but I really wanted that damn silver box! I collect Collector Editions of my favorite games. Not a happy camper I am.
