Absent Multiple Player Feature A Game Killer?

Absent Multiple Player Feature A Game Killer?

Hi I am new to the forums but have been reading them for a while, I am somewhat concerned over the idea of a TBS game without any real standalone multiplayer feature. This is without a doubt one of "THE" most important features of any TBS or RTS game. Replay value is somewhat limited in single player mode after you have played the campaign and a number of generated universes. It is the multiplayer element that provide the additional frill factor that keeps a decent TBS/RTS game going long after the single player mode gets boring.

I am not entirely sure how the metaverse works but from what I have been able to see it is based on team vs team conquest of sectors on a galactic map.

If I am wrong then please correct me.

I must admit it was the possibility of having 8 of my mates around on a LAN game of GC2 that really got me interested, but now I find I won't be able to do that, it kinda takes he shine off of the polished game if you know what I mean.

Anyway like some comments and thoughts on the subject, be civil and constructive.

I have taken the opportunity to read through all your comments, a lot of very good point regarding TBS and MP have been made, I must admit that all of my MP experiences have been with RTS or turn stacking games. To the last poster I'd like you to re-read the title of the thread, we it says was a question and not a statement. I am inquiring whether or not MP is an important feature of a game in the age of boardband internet, not that it should be there by default.

I recall the endless pleasure I had playing MOO2 singleplayer, and my very limited experience with the MP part. It occurs to me that waiting for players to take turns can start to grate if they take a while. I suppose it was just the LAN experience with the lad that really appealed to me.

Is there any word on the PBEM, will this be a feature of the game or is the metaverse the only MP at all.

Is there a chance that some clever boffin can rig up a PBEM system, I'd imagine it is a simple case of saving each turn and loading it onto the other guys computer. Hmmm hang on its not that easy, hmmm will go away and think about it.

Very old discussion.
No it's not "game killer" I as many users preffer SP mode.
Many other users preffer MP mode , it's ok , so they will not buy the game.
Stardock compared work and money on MP mode versus a espected amount of users that will not buy without it and made a descission.
Good or bad we will see , I think it's well can't say "good" but defenatly not catastrofic choice.

The decision by the developers of GC2 not to implement multiplayer is one of the main reasons why they are going to get my money.
