So I'm the Pot Calling the Kettle Black

(...what does that mean anyway?)

So in an earlier article I bashed people who are materialistic, and spend money outside of their means. Well, I guess I do it too...That's why I hate when other people do it, because it's a quality I hate about myself. Interesting how that works, eh?

As a rule I still try to be very careful about buying unnecessary luxuries. It's so tempting, and there are so many cool things that we could have...but I always stop and ask myself first, "Do I really need this?" or, "Am I going to truly be happier once I possess this?" The hard fact is that the answer is usually, "No." which can really put a damper on fun sometimes...

Well yesterday I conned John into buying some fantabulous Vermeer & DaVinci - inspired tapestries, and another beautifully-colored tapesty of a canal in Venice that's really familiar to me, but I can't put my finger on its name or who painted it. They were super expensive, but they're worth a whole lot more than we paid for them. So I convinced John that these can be considered investments. I've been dreaming about them for several months, which is another rule I have when it comes to buying unnecessary luxuries: "Sleep on it for a while before buying it." *Sigh* So I did.I know it was really dumb, considering we don't yet have a real bed or a sofa. Hmmm.

I think everyone buys things that are unnecessary things once in a while. As long as you aren't spending so much that you are unable to feed your family. pay your bills, be prepared for emergencies etc. I think you're doing all right.
