Screenshot capture software... best and free??

Hi all,

Curious to know what screen capture you have found to be the best. I used a program called "PrintKey" a long time ago and seemed to work fairly well. Supported several different file formats, but was wondering if anyone out there had used anything better. I'd really like to find something free 'cuz I'm a poor college student, but would be willing to pay for the right program.

Then again, it's quite likely that I may be unaware of an app. that came with Object Desktop. What do you use to capture your current desktop to post on W/C? Should note that I'm still a newbie, but that's probably pretty obvious from my post. TIA!

Shift+PrintScrn then paste into Paint works best for me

Alternatively, you could try Purrint: http://dana.ucc.nau.edu/~tsr22/apps/#purrint

Hooks onto the PrntScn key and can automagically save to a file. Normally I don't like apps for such simple tasks, but this one's only 86k. Downside: for it to be useful, you should (ofcourse) have it running all the time.

Hmm.. I use Alt-PrtScrn to capture the item that has focus....

It's free and extremely handy. You can cacpture the full screen or only a specific area. You can copy the capture to the clipboard, or output it directly to the printer, send it by email or automatially save it to a given directory.
And it's free.

Thanks everyone for the great info! I like the idea of just using PrtScrn because it's already there, but can't resist trying out new software. I'll try all of them and see which I like best.
