Accessing things on your desktop online

How funny! I've never seen a request for a Pop-Up ad

All I can say is, keep hitting refresh. If it's still in rotation it will "Pop Up" eventually...That is, If the Pop-Up even came from here. Or, you can just Google it

I personally wouldn't trust a pop-up. One method is through remote desktop. I personally wouldn't choose to do this or any method like this as the possibilities for someone phreaking your computer greaten enormously when you allow your computer to be accessed in that fashion over the internet.

haha, yeah i guess it is sort of silly for me to ask about this, its only that i can only access my email from my desktop and when i go on trips it is a major problem, oh well though, you're right, very easy to invade privacy.

its called 'active desktop'.. its built into windows

right click on your desktop and go to the 'web' tab, and turn on active desktop. then you can place web pages or little application 'widgets' on your desktop, like sports scores, weather, and so on. i havn't used it in xp but it was notoriously unstable in '98.

No, I think what the person is saying is their email is not web based, so they need a stand-alone email client to access it. When they are away from home with just basic internet access, they can't read their email. Not much you can do about that. Maybe find a small, light email client that you can run off a floppy. Should be something like that out there.

The apps you are asking about are 'virtual desktop' applications, that let your computer be controlled remotely. They are often used for administration, nice apps, but they creep me out security wise. Nothing like seeing your cursor start moving around on its own.

You have to have those installed on the remote computer, too, so you are in the same boat as not having your email client.

I think you're looking for something like http://www.gotomypc.com. It's a web based (sort of) remote desktop solution. I used it for a while but not enough to justify the cost so I canceled. Give it a try I think you can try it for free.
