Greetings, fellow space explorers! It's time for another exciting update on the development of GalCiv IV: Supernova. Today, we're going to talk about some changes coming to the technology tree and ideologies.
First up, let's talk about the technology tree. Technology choices are currently random in GalCiv IV, and while this added an element of unpredictable gameplay and replayability, it could also be frustrating when you desperately needed a specific technology and it just wouldn't show up. Well, no need to fear that problem anymore!
In GalCiv IV: Supernova, we're changing things up. You'll still get a random selection of available technologies, but there is a significant discount on them. This means that if you're willing to take a chance on a random tech, you'll be rewarded with a faster research time. Of course, we understand that sometimes you just need a specific technology. That's why we're also giving players the option to select specific techs, but at a higher cost. So, if you desperately need that shiny new laser weapon, you can still choose to research it directly - it'll just cost you more.
Now, let's move on to ideologies. In previous versions of the game, ideology choices were gated behind your civilization’s “awareness” of a particular ideology. This meant that if you wanted to follow a specific ideology, you had to choose the “right” civilization or wait for an event that gave you awareness. This could be frustrating if you had a particular playstyle in mind.
In GalCiv IV: Supernova, ideology choices will no longer be gated by civilization awareness or events. Instead, they'll function more like a skill tree. You'll build up Cultural Points as a resource, and you can spend them on whatever cultural trait trees you like. The cost of each tree will be discounted based on your previous event choices. So, if you consistently make authoritarian choices, the authoritarian tree will be a cheaper place for you to spend your Cultural Points.
This means that you can tailor your playstyle to your preferences, without being held back by RNG or civ specific abilities, but you still can get an advantage for roleplaying a specific ideology.
We're really excited about these changes, and we hope you are too! We believe they'll add a new level of strategy and customization to the game while still retaining the fun and excitement of playing GalCiv how you want to. As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions. We're working hard to make GalCiv IV: Supernova the best game it can be, and we couldn't do it without your support.
Keep on exploring the galaxy, and we'll see you in the next update!
