Quoting Emptymess,

Hi there ! I started having troubles with WPE when I updated to 3.10 last week, and discovered today 3.12 should fix the issue so I installed it but it seems it didn't fix the issue on my end

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling. Just make sure to re-download V3.12 Beta again from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Thank you,

Hi, after install of beta 3.1.2.7 at the first restart/reboot my desktop went nuts, trying to create a fence where ever I clicked on the desktop.
I'm also running DeskScapes 11 and it was flashing and stuttering badly. After a shutdown and restart things appear to have settled back to normal ops.
When looking for a 'why' I found a doubled entry in the Windows Startup Apps. see scr-shot. Can you explain?
Also the snapshot taken by Fences now show the background as 'black' as opposed to the wallpaper images. (running 3 monitors)

Look forward to your response.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system and issues

  1. Windows version, please use Winver.exe for full Windows version numbers.
  2. Have you tried the purge and reinstall steps as mention here https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling.  Just make sure to re-download the V3.12 Beta from your account again. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.
  3. Fences need to load twice for it to work properly. You can refer here :  https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#FencesStartUP.
  4. On the Black Snapshot background issue, I will forward the issue to Support for their reviews on it.

We really appreciate your feedback and patience.

Thank

Basj,
Stardock Community Assistant.

Quoting jhy4321,

Yes I've checked all of them, but the issue still exits.

Can you post a video of your desktop, showing  that this is checked:

And the issue still happening?

Hi Basj,
Thanks for the quick come back on this. Appreciated.
1) Windows version, scr-shot of winver.exe below.
2) Will consider the purge and re-install steps. I assume the purge will put me back to a complete no Fences restart, so all currently configured fences will need to be re-created after re-install. As at this point things seem to be working (apart from black snapshots), I'll hold off with the purge option.
3) Thanks for the explanation. Yes it is there twice as it obviously should be.
4) look forward to hearing from Tech Support in due course on this issue.

Btw, any comments on the running of Fences and other Stardock apps like DeskScapes on the upcoming Windows 11?

Regards

Another query. This one regarding Portals to Folders, specifically folders inside folders.
Currently with a created Folder Portal, when I click on a folder within, it opens a Win Explorer window rather than drilling down within the portal as seems to be indicated here (time mark 0.49) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl52OgyvKYk.

Is there a setting which controls this behaviour? So far I've not been able to find it.

Thanks

Vincent

Hello Vincent.

Could you post what are your setting on your 3 monitors setups. Information such as resolutions, scaling etc on all of your monitors.

Appreciate your feedback.

Thank you,

Hi Basj,
Below is scr-shot of both Speccy and Display Fusion setting windows with all info. Only bit missing is the Text Scaling which is set to standard 100% on all 3 monitors via Display Settings in Windows 10.
Hope this sheds some light on things.

Hello,
Vincent, Thanks for the information I will forward it to Support. And, if you have some free times please test this.

  1. Disable Deskscape 11.
  2. Apply normal Windows wallpaper.
  3. Make Fences layout snapshot and see if the background wallpaper appear there.

Thanks
Basj,
Stardock Community Assistant.

Hi Basj,
Did the steps 1-3 and also tried DeskScapes with static background as opposed to the video moving type backgrounds.
In all cases, static img or otherwise, when DeskScapes is running the Fences snapshot results in black background image with just the Fences showing in their correct positions.
As soon as DeskScapes is disabled and a Windows background is applied, the snapshot in Fences shows the background and Fences positions correctly.

Just an observation, when disabling DeskScapes (via the settings on lower left and selecting 'Disable DeskScapes') the screens go to solid black, solid colour. If memory serves, a long time back with earlier versions of DeskScapes when turning it off would default back to the Windows Image desktop. Just wondering if this indicates a link to the issue?

Cheers

Vincent

Sorry I missed this one. You can navigate inside the Portal Fences itself. You just need to enable "Allow navigation". Click on that 3 bar menu.

Hello Basj,
I had guessed that might be it, however it seems to be inactive as with or without yhay option being ticked the behaviour is the same, ie. an Explorer window opens when a folder in the portal window is double clicked.
Maybe another bug/issue to pass on to support.

Btw, I have installed both Fences and DeskScapes into a copy of Windows 11 Beta and all seems OK this far. Haven't yet checked for the issue of the Portal behaviour, but the black background in the DeskScape 11 snapshots remains the same. So I guess that sort off confirms it is a bug I think.

Back to you.

Vincent

Hello Vincent,

Please check if you already set you Folder option is set correctly.

I encountered one small issue but its likely not tied to the new version. It could be that installing the new Beta just reset a setting.

How do I exclude certain Programs from being affected by fences? I had this issue with DisplayFusion and that software has an ignore list.

I have created an internal ticket on this as I was able to reproduce it.

Ref: FEN-83

Just a reminder that for any tests, 3.12 does need to be installed and we really want to keep the discussion to the noted items in the changelog:

https://forums.stardock.com/506115/get;3813226

For any other item (feature request, etc), please create a new thread.

Thanks,

Me too - I still can't uninstall 3.0.9.11, probably due to corruption of the uninstall folder/files. I posted full screenshots in the main thread re 3.10 Issue Reports. Purging doesn't work, as some of the cmd lines produce errors.

HELP!
End of johnedwards1's quote
I'm pleased to say following the advice by @FiatLux_DK (Reply #152 in Fences 3.10 Report Thread) to reinstall Fences under Safe Mode WORKED! In fact, I've now installed v3.1.2 successfully and I see that my Fences folder includes the missing Uninstall folder and files. Many thanks.

However, I still can't access my previous Fences as none of the Layout snapshots (shown under Layout & snapping) reflect them. Can anyone point me to the folder in which I would find the layout snapshots stored - in case others can be found there (perhaps in system backups)?

Having searched my PC, I've found a Backups folder in C:/Users/NAME/AppData/Roaming/Stardock/Fences and It does contain an old backup which would suit me as a basis for restoration. However, it doesn't appear in the 'Layout snapshots' panel of the Fences configuration/setup and it is titled as a long string of random letters, numbers and dashes (.png) along with a matching (.xml). So how can I make this snapshot appear in the configuration panel so that I can restore it? [It won't be dragged, copied or shortcut in.]

Thanks

Hi Basj,

Found the setting which appears to control the display behaviour when clicking on a folder inside a folder portal. Turning the setting OFF ensures the correct functioning of the portal clicks. See screenshot below.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction where I found it.
