"Unknown Fleet Type Detected"

I've searched these forums, and I don't see my problem there, so I'm making a new post here.

Every time I start this game, I get a slew of error messages saying that my custom ships are not recognized.

The models show up in-game, I have all the DLC, and I have experienced no bugs whatsoever in terms of ships being listed.

But when I go into Fleet Style for my custom civilization to pick the default models, under "Ship Style" it has dozens of the same name.

I don't know if it's a file that's missing or corrupted, but I only have ONE custom civilization that I'm constantly tweaking and adjusting, so it's a bit maddening that I cannot for the life of me get the ship style to just stick without creating a bunch of "new" styles.

Here's one of the error messages:

Here's another:

In the bottom-right corner, you see how there's the last one of the "standard" civs, and you see another "Terran" style along with the style I'm attempting to consolidate.

And here's another one:

See all the duplicate styles?

Again, I'm not experiencing any mechanical issues, i.e. I'm not crashing, freezing, or otherwise unable to actually play the game, but this issue has plagued me for years and I'm just stumped.

It did nothing.

I've been able to delete some of the duplicates, but there's still some holdovers.

Try going to Documents\My Games and rename the GC3Crusade folder to something else.

Rename, not delete it. You'll use all your custom created content if you delete it.

I renamed the file, I did not delete it.

It still deleted ALL of my custom ships, starbases, and shipyards.

They aren't deleted just located in the old folder. Do the error messages still appear?

Ah, I see.

The error messages are gone, and I think I see the mistake when designing a ship, but how do I "reclaim" my custom designs from the old folder?

I've been always seeing these messages. I have a lot 9f downloaded civilizations. This doesn't seem to prevent me from using downloaded civilizations.

Well, I seem to have solved the problem, but I can't get the "old" designs to show up anymore.

At least I have a reason to make even better ones now.

The simplest method would be to copy them from the old folder to the new one. I suggest going about it one by one and opening the game to see which one is giving the error.

In the old GC3Crusade folder

Designs - contains ship designs

ShipStyleSet - contains ship styles

Factions - contains civilizations

The other folders should be self-evident.

If you do find want was causing the error messages would you kindly upload it to a file sharing site? That way I could pass it along to someone on the dev team to take a look at it.

I appreciate the help, but I opted to just delete the files.  I went through like you said, and all I got was a whole 'lotta nothing.

On the plus side, if one enters a new fleet style name, and then selects "Save Fleet Style Only", it has (so far) allowed for a custom ship style for a custom civilization, without duplicates and without errors.

Even better, I have several screenshots of my ships, so I can fairly easily recreate them.

Again, thanks for the help.
