Understanding Tech

I was looking at the Tech Tree Viewer someone so kindly made, and was interested in the XML. Yet it seems when I get into the tech XML within crusade, I cannot really understand at all what I am reading. A lot of references are such things as "GenericTechTree_ShortDec" and similar, with a reference to a short description and later a normal description, but where is this information actually kept? It seems to be lacking in the XSD as well, so really not sure where this info is kept.

One reason is I am trying to understand what cybernetic actually offers. Based on the tech tree viewer application, it offers no tech, even though the description says it does. So, confused there and thought if I could see actual techs, I might see what it offered. And also, would like it to better understand if I wanted to add one in a traditional manner, or edit one.

Thank you.

**EDIT** So I found where the flavor text is stored, which is good, but I am still unsure how to determine which cybernetic gets.

Am on my phone and haven't looked, but cybernetic offers a mechanic citizen that gives all your ships +1 moves for each you train.  I don't think it's a prereq for any techs yet, though I'd expect some to be added later.

Assuming they are not changed by a Mod (if so they are in your ..//Users/your name/Documents/My Games/GC3Crusade/Mod/modname/Text folder) they are stored in the Text folder which for Crusade is in ...//Steam/SteamApps/Common/Galactic Civilization III/DLC/EXP2_Crusade/English/Text folder.  They match the corresponding XML file name like ImprovementDefsText.XML for the building XML file ImprovementDefs.XML.  You will see a series of XML StringText statements for each Description_Name, Short Description, Description for each Improvement in ImprovementDefs.XML.  This is only how the tooltip text is customized for each building - there is a similar text file for each MasterTech (MasterTechDefs.XML) and various other XML data files.

Text tooltips are very generic and provide very little additional information about each item.  Stardock's naming convention does make fairly quickly understanding the intent pretty obvious.

Which I guess you figured out by now - I have wondered that as well and just found the Mechanic Citizen reference last night when looking at what the Slaver Citizen does (it does not have an upgrade (increase by 1 level) tech currently like the Worker and Engineer has (well unless you mod it in lol).

Like other new Racial Abilities and Life Style choices it is still very much discovery over time with Balance changes likely changing the benefits of Cybernetic which seems incomplete at present.  Hopefully this will change as that Life Style Choice could lead to interesting benefits
