Modding sensors

Can you still mod in overpowered sensor boats? I have tried increasing sensor power in ShipComponentsDef but it has no effect that I can see.

I haven't tried to make any new sensor components yet, but I have added increased sensor power as a Tech Stat, and it worked with noticeable results. Doing it this way does of course increase the sensor power for all of your ships. Are you specifically looking for it to be as a new ship component?

Maybe that would work. I always applied the mod to nav sensors only and I never used nav sensors for anything but a sensor boat in the early game. I don't want the sensor power to apply to all ships. If that can be done it will be fine.

I had always worked with the ship component sensor range. This has been changed to sensor power and increasing the number seems to have no affect. I am not that good at modding so I could be missing something but I  sort of doubt it. I copied the file from the new release and pasted it into mymod before altering the number. It was quick and easy. Always worked before, but not now. :) I have looked at the other Nav sensor values but I can't see anything that looks like it would change the sensor range/power.

I haven't fooled around with the sensor components yet, but I just took a look, and it looks like changing the value for the sensor power should work. That value increases for each upgraded sensor component. If you increase that value and don't notice any difference, start a new game and check it. A lot of changes will not effect saved games. (One of the gripes I have about modding Galactic Civilizations)

    <Stats>
      <EffectType>SensorPower</EffectType>
      <Target>
        <TargetType>Ship</TargetType>
      </Target>
      <BonusType>Flat</BonusType>
      <Value>2</Value>
    </Stats>

EDIT: I just played around with the Navigational Sensor, found that a small increase in sensor power is barely noticeable in game but it does increase the sight radius. Then I increased the sensor power to <90>, and that gave me a sight radius of 15. (Very Noticeable) So adjusting the value for sensor power does work, it just takes a lot to really be noticeable.

That worked. Thanks, it would never have occurred to me to increase them that much.  👍

Well 5his was caused by people suggesting to limit sensors, and no one bothering to complain. If you really want things to change you should suggest this for crusade.

A year or so (maybe nearly 2 years) a number of us weighed in on the sensor issue. Those who wanted them nerfed won the day and I consider the issue settled. All I want is the ability to mod the sensors the way I want them. I don't do multiplayer so how I play should matter to nobody. Anyway it is fixed as of now, and it should last until the next update. :)

Same, since the AI cheated and know where you are anyway so no point to be underdog against them. I hate how their ship has no sensor but somehow know exactly where my ship at. It happened way too many time to be coincidence. Botched the element of surprise. This wouldn't happen when playing against player and the sensor nerf is a good call for that part.
