Large Map Strategies

I'm having trouble playing on large maps.

How do you all manage, when you have an army across the map, miles away from your factories? I would love to have some air transports to quickly carry reinforcements to them...

Am i supposed to be building constant factories right behind my advancing armies? Or should I just have a constant stream of units crawling across the map? The latter strategy always fills up my logistics points.

Also, getting a dreadnought across the map takes eons...

All of this, on top of the news that we're getting even BIGGER maps. This all sounds great, but I can't imagine it taking even longer to get my army to my enemy.

Thoughts?

Maybe no one has any thoughts, but maybe I could get some help with strategies? I really don't know how I'm supposed to be playing larger maps.

Thanks :)

Use big ships with a butload of engines and life support. Miniturization helps with fitting things. If you don't want to waste on life support you could keep defensive fleets at the starbases for range. As far as home instead of defending each planet you could position fleets in key positions if fast. You could use empty hulls to avoid transports. You could even place fast ships and upgrade them to strong ships only worrying about life support no speed after you get there.

I was SO confused, thought I had been missing out on this whole other portion of the game, then I realized, you were talking about GalCiv... LOL  :D
