Campaign bug: Purchased Water Engine patent can be patented by other players, also negates your patent (Resolved: no bug)

I bought the Water Engine patent as a permanent upgrade in the campaign. When I started the next game it worked, but then towards the end another player patented the Water Engine in their patent lab. This then meant that they (presumably) had it, but my freighters and offworld market started using fuel again. I believe the freighters individually switched over as soon as they landed.

Cold Fusion and Water Engine will switch back to using power and fuel, respectively, instead of water if those resources become cheaper than water. This is the case in your screenshot.

Ah, I see. That explains my units using fuel, then.

Is other players being able to patent things you have a patent on intended? I think the case of multiple players starting with the perk is fine, but it seems strange to allow research within mission, given that patents are usually exclusive, and would be if researched.

yes, perks don't exclude players from acquiring patents as that destroys the value of the Patent Lab by the end of the campaign.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to clarify what was happening.

I have to say that this is a really interesting game. Very innovative, and great fun.
