Civilization VI announced

Set to launch on PC on October 21, 2016.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI includes:

  • EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.
  • ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.
  • DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.
  • COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units.
  • ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER: In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session.
  • A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS: Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems are designed to introduce new players to the underlying concepts of Civilization so they can easily get started on a path to victory.

Well, the hype has worked I have pre-orderded. Eh! Why break a tradition? I have purchased every main version since Civ 2 unreviewed

LOL, I may not be able to hold out now either. I was totally planning on waiting for the game to come out and wait and watch Let's Plays of it. But Quill18 has some Let's Plays of an early build and it looks pretty damn good.

I like the look a LOT. And I like some of the gameplay decisions they have made.

I think Firaxis may have gotten me again. LOL, I'll probably be back bitching after launch. But hey, that is what the internet is for, right!?

I hope this time they brought back spending allocation, and lets you decide what your citizens do again, so the game will be worth it again.

Today is the day that we find out. Just as well that it is a three day weekend.

So far I have played around 110 hours. I really enjoy it. The scenarios are quite fun. The Australian one is certainly different. And I had a real blast playing Alexander the Great conquering the known world.

I also have a computer that isn't too powerful, I turn down the visual performance settings and play on a smaller map

Posting to let this clear out my Subscriptions showing new posts. Believe this was caused by someones spam getting deleted before I saw it.

(Mods please feel free to delete, wouldn't mind seeing if it stays as a thread with no new posts after that)

Six years after Civ 5, I wish this game were more of an improvement. It's nowhere close to the massive step forward from Civ 4 to 5. And while some elements have improved, others feel lacking. I'm glad to see the return of the government system, but it feels underdeveloped, and the ability to simply swap out policy cards with no political blowback feels very out of place. You're ostensibly rewriting the social fabric of your civ, and yet it's just pick and choose. I'd like to see more penalties for switching, and some synergies with certain governments and policies. While I appreciate the faster pace, the maps seem much tighter, with almost no neutral ground left after the first 50 or so turns. The religion mechanic is mostly unchanged, and still feels like an afterthought, with little decision making beyond send-moar-missionaries.

If it weren't for the wonky new graphical scheme, it would be hard to pick Civ 6 apart from a Civ 5 expansion

Well without spending allocation, citizens, or civics the game seems lacking next to 4.

Posting for same reason as I did in reply # 32 https://forums.elementalgame.com/477430/get;3704419

Spam got deleted and thread is now consistently marked as having a new post. Even though there isn't one and having viewed it multiple times.

So, just wondering what others think of the new Gathering Storm expansion.

Personally I really like it so far. Though the game definitely still needs some work. Both in user interface, and in AI.

I also like Gathering Storm. I think it adds a significant amount to the game, though I would agree that it needs some tweaking.

Some things I'd like to see...

  • More control over what gets voted on in the World Congress. I think that some of the decisions are strange, compared to the ones from Civ 4 & 5.
  • The ability to gift units (as far as I know you can't do this anymore). I really like the ability to fight proxy wars by gifting units.
  • The ability to have Military Engineers auto-build railroads, and have Rock Bands automatically handle their own tours. I'm fine with micro-managing the Builders, however.
  • The option to turn off espionage. I find it annoying.
  • The AI doing a better job of fighting. I was able to push back 20th century weaponry with 19th century units.
  • Stealth bombers and stealth fighters. I don't know if they'd actually do anything. I just think they're cool.

Some things I really like...

  • The future techs that are unrevealed and random.
  • Dams--every time I get the chance I make a dammed river.
  • The labels (names) on rivers and mountains. Nice touch.
  • Giant Death Robots are back!
  • The ability to build various types of missiles.
  • Grievances and Diplomatic Favor system - I much prefer this to the old "warmonger penalty" system

What I'd REALLY like to see is Stardock make a game like Civ. I really like what's been done with GalCiv 3, but I prefer planet-based empire building to outer space. I don't care for fantasy, but sci-fi is cool--so either something historically based or something like SMAC.
