OTC Tournament 8- Round 1 Match 1 discussion

[Spoilers] obviously

Blackmagic vs DeathTacticus vs Heisenburg vs Duban

Whelp, that last game ended in the worst possible way for me. I was doing a pretty strong game until it crashed. I definitely stood a chance of winning that one, I think. What does everyone else think?

Edit: Also, what do I have to do to get unmuted from zultar's stream? Either nobody could hear me or like 20 people did a really good job of ignoring me.

I really liked your stock plays. The water/stock kingmaker to make DT lose and the elimination of bm in the first round.

I didn't see any of your chat in twitch.

In regards to my chat, what's your twitch name? I only have 10 people banned, all from months ago, and all I believe are bots.

Usually when people can't see what you type ther's been a connectivity error between you and the chat room, requiring you to refresh the browser. If you had done that... twitch might think your a bot?

Game 4 was early enough that you might have been able to win it, but that game was heavily in death tacticus's favour. If you had been an actual player when he bought you, he might have even ended up winning because your territory woudl have been better than the AI's :P

But yeah, kind of too early to tell, and I think one big reason why there was no call for a regame was that no one ever saw your messages in chat. We thought your itnernet might have dropped or somethign and didn't want to redo another game when we weren't even sure if you came back.

Overall I felt those games were fun, but lacking in blackmarket usage and just general cut-throatedness for the most part, you guys were all pretty passive until late-game, rather than taking a risk early to cripple an opponent. I didn't like that 2 out of the 4 games had offworlds almost untouchable because of the lack of offensive blackmarket effects, but it happens. Hated your kingmaker rubbish in game 3 though, but I won't hold it against you because it was likely a mistake on your part not realising heisenberg was in the strongest position because he used a lot of holograms :P

Edit: oh my god they've changed the smilies and now my :P's are even worse :(

My twitch account is Dubanx. Whenever I chat it's showing up as some weird shit like JustinFan000. Think my account was hacked at some point a while back and I never noticed because I don't speak on twitch much?

Also, what's this "kingmaker" thing I keep hearing about?

kingmaker: suppose you're going to lose in a 3-way. With you are Cubit and NewbieOTCPlayer. You don't want Cubit to win, or he's going to run away with the tournament. So you make NewbieOTCPlayer win: you choose the king.

I'd like to clear up an extremely confusing play on my part early in game 1. I mutinied DT's iron tile when it was $7. I was looking at it very quickly and thought it was an aluminum tile.

kingmakering is a result if the stock system, and how stock is divided up when someones bought ouit. If P1 buys into P2 and looks like he's going to kill him, then P2 buying into P3 would be kingmakering, because after P1 buys P2 he gets all the stock P2 had in P3. This does not happen very often and is the incorrect play for P2 if P2 wants to have the best chance of winning, because by buying into P3 you just make yourself more valuable for P1, but someone motivated by spite or meta knowledge can intentionally do it. The correct play in this position is to buy into P1 to force P1 to be scared of P3 buying either P1 or P2, causing a large-scae blackmarket fight between P1 and the combined efforts of P2&P3, which might give P2 the time to come back into the game.
