Humans are so conceited in thinking WE resemble you...
Humanoids? No you are Ariloloid. You are Android. You are nothing but an errant DNA from the precursors and you dare lay claim on 2 legs, 2 arms, fingers, toes, a head, eyes, mouth, and nose?
Just because something is intelligent and has legs because it has to move, it has arms because it needs to use tools, and a head because it needs to have a brain to be intelligent, and eyes to see the world, and ears to hear the world and you immediately assume that only humans must have legs, arms, heads, ears, intelligence, etc and dare called them humanoid?
Merriam-Webster defines humanoid as; Having human form or characteristics.
So a Cat walking on four legs is not a humanoid but the moment it walks on 2 legs and develops hands it becomes a humanoid?
Heck even Centaurs are considered humanoid just because their upper body is that of a human despite the fact that they have four legs and a tail.
The only way to avoid creating a humanoid alien would be to have the HEAD in the abdominal region, have tentacles instead of arms coming from the top part of the body, and instead of legs have only one foot like a snail and slime around.... and instead of 2 eyes it would have photon receptors covering the whole body, and instead of ears it would have antennae feelers that detect vibrations. Instead of a mouth it would have a proboscis and 2 tongues.
Not having humanoid aliens means not giving them arms and legs and having them walk upright like "humans".
Ok, I can see how you would think that. I assumed he was sitting on a dais and the screen projections were the controls. You are assuming that the dais is just a command console with unseen controls. That idea is fair enough and equally possible.
Vaelzad did say it had 4 legs, though. If it had a centaur-like body, it could still be manspreading. The remaining legs would be behind the body and robes.
Spider legs over the lower control surface would be cool. Great pic regardless. Thanks for the present!
Make sure you don't make it angry then. 
I like it alot, guys its early days and many more species will be shown. Don't go argh humanoid looking for just first one...
