Been using this beta all week and it's been pretty good.  It could very easily be a placebo effect as I haven't used WindowFX since the Win10 betas started, but it seems noticeably smoother.

The major issue i have is that the animations frequently just stop working (I haven't discovered anything in particular that triggers this yet).  When this happens, any animations I've turned on simply don't execute (ie. you close a window and it disappears with no animation) and with wobbly windows switched on, moving a window will cause it to turn invisible until you stop the move action.

Toggling the WindowFX features option in the Home tab from ON to OFF and then back to ON again fixes the problem - until the next time it happens.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Does not work on my system! I get the same non display of animations as I got with version 5.15 running on Windows 10!

There are a few animations that do work (both versions of WindowFX).

These are the ones I found to work in the Open Window section:
    Default obviously works!
    Basic fade in.
    Expand from left/right.
    Expand.
    Swipe from left/right.
    Shrink from screen.
    Slide from top/bottom/left/right.

Curiously none of the other expand versions other than those listed here work!
The same opposing close animations work also as well as the same animations for minimize/restore.
None of the menu animations work (normal or start menus), they just cause a delay (duration of the animation effect) before the menu is displayed.
None of the movement animations work.

These are my hardware specs and relevant software versions:

CPU: AMD FX 9590 x8 Core (under-running at 4GHz. Should be 4.7GHz but although my m-board BIOS shows 4.7 the OS shows 4!)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 w/ 4GB GDDR5 RAM.
RAM: 24GB DDR3 1333 (For some reason the m-board does not like my 1666 RAM boards running at 1666! Time to save for a new m-board!)
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Was WindowFX 5 installed when you installed WindowFX6?

If so please uninstall WindowFX, REBOOT and reinstall.

Can anyone confirm for me the following:

Open Windows Powershell and Windows Powershell (x86) and Windows Powershell ISE and Windows Powershell ISE (x86).

Does this break Windows FX for you? It does for me when I run all these together and shortly after eachother.

Running them one by one and closer the other before starting the next program doesnt break WindowsFX but running them all at the same time break the animations.

Not that this would happen in normal daily use offcourse but if this can break WindowsFX then we have found a bug! :P

It breaks for me in that way atleast. :)

I've experienced almost the same behaviour. After contacting support (ticket still pending) I decided to take matters into my own hands, uninstalled WindowFX 6 beta completely and reinstalled it from scratch. Currently I'm testing and so far it looks good. But I cannot really confirm anything because it has only been a few hours since I reinstalled it. I will post my results as soon as I've observed WindowsFX's behaviour for a while.

After reinstalling WindowFX 6 beta the situation has not changed. After a certain amount of time the animations stop working and the window flip animation shows a transparent window of which only the black text and the buttons are visible. The only thing that has improved is the fact that the system does not crash anymore if I disable and re-enable the WindowFX effects.

Do elaborate what issues you have so the dev's can fix it.

Also, unusable is a very heavy term and clearly something on your end makes it unusable since others are running it.

I dont have any problems with WindowsFX aside from my earlier post which is a very rare issue.

I upgraded from 5 to 6 without problems.

I was able to install the 6 beta without issue on Windows 10 and things seem reasonably good.  Two minor issues I'm running into, though, in case it's useful to report:

  1. As mentioned previously on this thread, the animations will sometimes just cease to work and dragging windows results in the window disappearing until I release the mouse button.  The same solution mentioned above also works for me:  simply flipping WindowFX to disabled and then enabled again resolves the issue.
  2. WindowFX doesn't always seem to play nice with the animations Windows uses when flipping between virtual desktops (win+cntrl+right/left).  Sometimes it works perfectly, but other times, instead of the smooth transition between desktops (sliding the desktop to the next one), the next desktop will just appear.  This doesn't happen always though.

Also, one item I'd add to the "wish it did this" list:  It'd be cool if the Windows 10 menu animation could be adjusted from the default.

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this problem. Can you download and run the tool below:

http://sd.stardock.com/Support/supportToolTest/SDSupportTool.exe

Then attach the .zip that's created and send it in with a ticket to support:

Very pleased to see this beta version working with Windows 10, particularly as I have had to uninstall half the Stardock software I owned since upgrading because they no longer work fully, e.g. WindowsBlind, ModernMix, Decor8, etc.

Anyway, the software seems to be working fine (...so far) but one thing I would really like to see added is an option for WindowsFX to remember window positions because, for example, opening up the File Explorer window always results in it annoyingly moving down and to the right every time I re-open it. This behaviour did not occur in Windows 7 or 8/8.1 so I don't know why Microsoft thought this was an "improvement". Other windows seem fine (as in their positions and sizes are retained) but an option to remember windows positions and sizes would still be extremely useful IMO.

In case it helps-

I've always seen that behavior, without FX installed, when using Windowblinds skins with unusually large top and side frames.  If you happen to be  using a skin with rather large frames, try using a skin with thinner frames close to "normal" and see if that has any effect.

So far working 'ok' on Windows 10. (specifically purchased WindowsFX)

One glaring issue is GPU VRAM usage. It's insane. Has to be a memory leak somewhere. VRAM hits 700mb+ after 10 hours uptime with WindowFX on.

EDIT: Now it's hitting over 900mb VRAM, just at the desktop.

Yes there definitely a problem with WindowFX releasing VRAM. Hopefully, they will fix it on the final release. It sucks having to disable it every time I want to play a game

If you are a sucker for the transparent background windows and giggly windows like me, these seems to be a temporary fix.

Turn menu animations off, and for window animations only use the lower half of the options. You know, the options that do not have a preview function, the more simple animations. That seems to keep VRAM at around 170mb, near vanilla windows.

EDIT: Actually it's more then that. But it's still better.

Hello, anybody home? What's going on here? Any news on possible fixes, a new beta version, anything? My support ticket, submitted at the end of August, has been dead for 2 weeks now (I provided the logs requested, no more answers after that).

Version 6 is still a beta. If your ObjectDesktop sub has expired, you won't have access to it.

Unfortunately you keep replying to your own ticket. This resets your place in the queue and delays our response. I will forward it to Bilal however so we can get you a response soon.
