Easy way to change hull class?

Some how some of my ship designs for small hulls were turned into cargo hulls. Is there a way I can change this? I assume its in a doc file I'd have to edit using notepad. I know very little about modding and so forth. Help?

There is no current way to change from one size class to another. For example you cannot change from Tiny to Small. You cannot change from Cargo to 'large'. I do believe that Cargo will scale with current technology though I keep thinking every time I went up in hull size the Cargo also went up.

But back to your point. As far as I know you cannot change 'hull sizes'.

Do you mean in game, or also editing the ship files?

Gauntlet shows a crafty way to do this in one of his tutorial videos. I would link but im typing from my phone. Look at gauntlet race mod and scroll down. It does require you to plan ahead to do this since only 1 piece can be attached to the invisible hull cube.

I was referring to in game. I have zero knowledge on how to mod it.

So, to sum up how to change ship scale:

1. Select the ship that you want to import onto another size class.

2. Group all the parts together and save as a new "custom" part.

3. Start a new hull, and then import that one new "custom" part onto your new size hull. Congrats, you just have changed ship size class.

Some things to remember are that all grouped parts should be attached to each other in the original design. Its best to only group basic parts as a new grouped custom part, and not use certain already grouped parts to make a new grouped part. The reason is that changing the overall size of the new custom part will not change the size of the small grouped part, and one will have to rescale by hand.
