Sorcerer King will support highDPI displays

4K and 5K monitors are coming. And we think they’re going to become common much faster than most people think.  That means gamers will be in a bit of a pickle. Either they’ll have to run their games at a lower resolutions (blurry, non-ideal) or face games with tiny tiny text and UIs.

Sorcerer King will be the first Stardock game to explicitly support high DPI displays.  The screenshots below come from my mere 2560x1440 display but as the last screenshot shows, the super-high DPI (for 4K monitors) doesn’t result in blurry text or graphics.

Normal (what’s in the game now being displayed on a 2560x1440 resolution, things start to look pretty small)

High-DPI UI (same resolution as before but now the UI and text is larger but remains super sharp).

Super-High-DPI (Can’t really show this on my monitor as I don’t have a 4K monitor but you can get an idea of how big this quest appears and yet how sharp things remain).

We expect this feature to hit sometime between Beta 2 and Beta 3 of Sorcerer King (www.sorcererking.com).

This is amazing. I wanted UI scaling on EWoM, FE and LH but no luck there. Glad to see this got some attention in SK.

Dungeon Defenders did a good job with their UI. You could scale the UI as you saw fit. Very slick feature. Hopefully you'll have the option to scale up or down the UI even if you don't have a 4K display. I've always found the unit/inventory list far too tiny on even my 1080p monitor.

Looks pretty cool. I wonder how much a decent sized 4K monitor will cost?

Will the UI scale automatically or will we have menu options to change it? (Or both).

I find even at 1920x1080 much of the UI has large empty regions that I'd love to be able to adjust. Actually I'd love to have lots of little changes to it tbh. It's nice and streamlined... but I like having more information without having to click or hover to find it. I'd love the following:

Expanded unit UI at the bottom left
I'd stretch all the way to the right if I could. I find it annoying to have it floating around in one corner with tiny little unit portrait icons and not showing all the options or available information or shortcuts like potions, abilities and consumables... as well as hidden shortcut buttons like 'details', 'skills' and 'disband'. Also little annoyance, 'details' has no tooltip, so as it's below pass mousing over it tells you to press space... which certainly does not give you the details screen... a screen that isn't the same screen as you get from equip... this version has no 'equip' tab at the top so it's less friendly to navigate.

The Unit icons and magic on the right
I'd increase their size when the list is otherwise empty. Dominions 4 has the keyboard shortcuts <,> to grow or shrink UI elements like commander tokens in the UI. Something like that I'd welcome. (Also typing ? shows a list of keyboard shortcuts for the screen you're on. Also a nice keyboard-interface help option I'd welcome.)
Also for magic, I'd like it to print the actual numbers and not just show the turns remaining. There are 6 numbers to show and it only gives me 2 on the main bit. (turns/research and turns/skills). The other 4 are only found in the tooltip.

For the top of the screen

I'd like an expanded resource view (preferably by pressing a down arrow or the skull on the doomsday counter). With the shown resources wider and provide the information they otherwise hide in the tooltip e.g. mana "40 +2.3/turn" (with the +2.3 either alongside or below). As well as options to show the printed values for turn number, a real-time clock and the doomsday number printed somewhere near/on the counter)

Both (manual override but it'll default to one we think players would want).

that's good, thanks
