Do You Even Anime?
no, srsly, do U?

Son, I am disappoint.

No anime fans out here?
No one watched anything? No one wants to share a good anime they watched? Or manga they read? Or whatever?
Reading the Naruto manga and watching the anime.
Wishing they'd continue the Berzerk anime.
Stein:s gate is probably my favourite.
Watched the Redline movie the other day, pretty damn good.
Sitting on a copy of Colourful, no idea what to expect from that.
Watched the live action Death Note movies also, absolutely awful.
You're opener is quite crude. Didn't think you were actually asking for anime suggestions.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is probably my favorite, though I don't think you can go wrong with anything from Hayao Miyazaki.
Code Geass is fantastic.
Vampire Hunter D is a unique little piece as well.
Cowboy Bebop is really worth watching.
Many, many years ago I recall watching the Galaxy Express 999 series. I have fond memories but I think if I rewatch them I'd be disappointed.
I prefer the anime I watch to make some tangible sense....the 'what if' needs to be present. Having people in random mechs or training grounds just to fight without any sense of plot just doesn't strike me as good. Escaflowne is a borderline example of this. The setting is absolutely facinating, but the plot device in which you follow the main character around with....simply isn't.
Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, and the reboot of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 are my recent faves...
A Space Battleship Yamato reboot? Awesome!
I used to be huge into anime, the stuff they put out today doesn't interest me that much anymore though. I suspect growing up and growing away from my friends earlier in life had an impact as well.
I do occasionally get a manga: the one I'm getting right that I enjoy is called a Centaur's Life. The creator is really into biology and world-building, and it shows.
I'll also admit I enjoyed Madoka as a guilty pleasure.
Liked Utena, Kenshin (at least the official stuff, the stuff after Shishio arc was crap) , and Slayers back in the day (the modern day Slayers reboot was ugh though).
I'm a huge fan of anime.
Durarara, Hajime no Ippo, Fate Zero, Monogatari, Samurai 7, Scryed, Full Metal Panic, Seitokai Yakuindomo, Valkyria Chronicles, Fate/Stay/Night, Fairly Tail, Magi
I could go on but I'll stop there.
I liked Sailor Moon!
Same. I think the industry in general has just become so stale and commercial. It's all about producing cookie cutter harem stuff to maximize profit and minimize risk, and I long ago out grew that stuff. Very little original or controversial stuff being produced in Anime these days. Korea is producing quite a few nice webtoons but they basically never become Anime.
It was super-commercial back in the 90s as well- I mean, Sailor Moon Sausage anyone? I remember the old Arctic fansubs with the commercials intact.
The real issue is the economic depression in Japan caused by their decade-long austerity program (you can't budget cut your way out of recession- EOR). This reduced mainstream spending on anime, so that the only folks supporting the industry were hardcore otaku types, and what they wanted was moeblob stuff.
As for original/controversial- some is still out there, but much of it is in Manga form, and most of that won't get US releases.
If you're an Ippo fan- look up something called Teppu (a Women's MMA manga)- the art is rough but it's really interesting.

Tell me how you liked it...[removed by admin - Do not link unlicensed streams/downloads.]
No fan of cell-shaded 3d in anime, unfortunately. Too bad...
The motion (or lack thereof) can be a little odd at times still, but CG anime has come a long ways in recent years.
I can't speak for the Yamato remake but, if you swear it off CG entirely you miss out on gems like Sidonia no Kishi (only licensed in NA by Netflix for some reason). Mecha action benefits from CG immensely since that is an area that tends to either suck up the animation budget or get skimped on.
Sorry for the faux pas with the link, but there will be a "dub" version of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 soon if not already...
I haven't seen that, thanks for the tip!
Sailor moon fan. Started watching a series about a vampire - but was too creepy for me. Sailor moon it is.
