Neat. Looks like they carry shields!

I finally finished my organic ship set. Or at least I can call it finished, it has one of each hull class. While I'm very happy with how they came out, I got really sick of making them, so I think I'm done with them for a while. Back to boxes in space!

I know I've posted videos before, so there is really only two new designs, the large and huge hulls. Skip to 1:30 if you want to just get to them.

I've been making similar ships, but I haven't figured out how oscillating works. Can you explain it to me?

Well, basically goto animation, then rotate, you choose which dimension to oscillate, x, y, or z. Then a speed, for testing I recommend a high speed like 80, then check oscillate.

Now you have to choose your angle, most of what th see above is at 20, so it's oscillating by 20 degrees. Then you also have the, option to base this animation on the hard point or not.

Once you have the movement you want, you'll want to adjust the angle of the objects position until it looks right. Worth everything working the way you want, go back to the animation and lower the speed to what you are happy with.

What I'm also doing here is animating the scale of the tentacles by about 20 percent in the Z dimension.

I was forgetting to click the x next to oscillate...thanks. : )

Just finished building an Apex-Class Supercarrier (featuring a 108 assault-fighter complement!).  Ship info is here (https://forums.galciv3.com/463807/page/1/), but these are the pictures:

That is incredible!

Gauntlet, I really like how they move all of their parts, and not only the tentacles. Good job!

I'm having trouble with a particular part. I want an equal part on the opposite side, but not to use the symmetry button. If I use symmetry button when I animate another part it screws up the symmetry. So what do you folks do when you want to put a piece mirroring another piece without using the symmetry buttons? Equations? Something else? Help! : )

Actually, follow Thecw's advice. That actually looks like it will work better.

Ty for the suggestion, but its not what i need help with. My issue won't be resolved by this. I know about putting a small part as the rotation part. This particular design requires a mirrored/unsymmetry buttoned part. I can get it mirrored visually, but I can't seem to sync up the oscillation of rotation and size change. I could post a video, but I want to unveil it here. :P

Take a screenshot and scribble on the picture what you want it to do.

If animation syncing is your problem, then keep in mind that animation starts at the load of a design or at the activation of the animation. This means that animations are during design always out-of-sync with each other.

To see whether they sync up, you must - after an alteration of the animation parameters - save the design and open it again OR place a temporary component somewhere on a static component and then delete the temporary component (the delete action will restart all animations).

I figured it out. I think I was up too late and needed a break. Still hard work though. Sort of like the process of creating a painting/song/novel.

I'm not exactly certain what your issue is precisely, but in general I can tell you that I avoid using the symmetry commands entirely.

Why?

A.) They mess up animations often

B.) They don't show up when I make a grouped part out of the model

C.) Because I'm crazy.

So yeah, I place another copy of the part and I agonizingly ensure that I duplicate the measurements and placement figures. Annnnnd then I get annoyed when 2.1 on one side isn't the exact same as 2.1 on the other lol.

I can't seem to figure out how to do a regular post, not a 'quick reply', so I can't preview this. If I do it wrong, will try to fix it.

I've finished 6 ships.
