Some thoughts on XP split and trained troops

Hello,

This is my other thoughts thread on a topic I have been pondering on for a while as well.  I separated it as they are two fundamentally different issues but both are important.

My understanding of the trained troops having no split to their xp is to balance the fact that they have a large xp penalty and to encourage the use of single or dual heroes per army.  This seems counter-intuitive to the point of an xp split.  It should be an all or nothing for a split either everyone is applied equally to it or not.  My suggestion to fix this is simply make the xp split apply to everyone trained troops and heroes equally but make the xp split again for trained troops by how many troops they have in a squad.

Base xp 100

Trained troop squad of 3.

Xp for single group of trained units is 100/3 = .33

If a two groups are in a fight together they each get half of that xp.

So (xp/2)*.33 = total xp each group gets.

If a Sov/champ is grouped they get their full share and do not have an individual xp split as they are a squad of 1.

This then makes it that xp is more valuable for individual units rather than armies.  Armies can help win a fight but then you lose that valuable experience.  To offset the loss of levels that would be inevitable by the reduced trained unit xp add in traits that increase total damage by 5% per level of trained troops since they can not gain new traits but are still getting stronger through battle experience/training.  This coupled with the unrest reduction I mentioned in my other thread would make troops useful even if they are added to the xp split.

Anyways this was my other thought hope you guys ind it useful.

I don't see much reason to make this change.

I don't really see any reason why they should get less exp than a hero for the same work either, but I definitely don't see why a 3 character unit should get any less than a 5 character unit.

What is the reason that a 6 character unit should level half as fast as a 3 character unit?  Does being around other people doing what you do make you collectively stupider?

In a classroom sense, kids learn more if they get more one on one time with the instructor, but on a battlefield it is one on one time 24/7.  Everyone is in a learning environment every second of the battle.  It isn't like person A shooting twice would prevent person B from also shooting twice in the same period of time.  Person A, B, C, D, E, and F could all shoot twice in the same 2 second time period or whatever it is.  If there were 100 people they could all shoot twice in the same 2 seconds or whatever.

To me this means that they should all learn at the same rate regardless of how many there are.  It is that way in the game right now and it makes sense to me that it should be that way.

The only reason I can think to do it your way is to punish having better armies which seems to go completely against the whole concept of the game.

Then by your logic all xp splits should be done away with.  I did state in my post that this was how I think xp split should be done if it was kept.  I am truly in favor of all or none.

I don't really know why we have exp splits to begin with.

I guess at some point somebody said that having 2x level 10 heroes is probably better than 1x a level 14 hero and that group space isn't really a limited resource.

If you ignore the mage class for the purposes of the discussion, trained units aren't really that much worse than your average hero.  If you have 2 heroes in a group you are necessarily preventing some other unit from occupying the second space.  Particularly one that would be about equal to the second hero and one that would not require you to do any splitting at all.

I would be fine if all units got about 75% of what 1 hero gets now with no unit getting more or less than any other.

If that doesn't come to pass, I would prefer everything is just left like it is.  If I want to have multiple "heroes" in a group, I will just play Altair and use henchmen for all except the first hero and have all the benefits and none of the drawbacks.
