Still no boxed version of Rebellion out there?

I mean, in Europe.

One of my pals is going to finish his university studies next month and i was thinking about buying him the game as a gift at that opportunity...he is not the type to drink, etc.. so i think he would appreciate it more than a bottle of wine or something along that line.

Obviously it would be way cooler in a box than directly on Steam. But i guess there is no other option, right?

Not that I know of, short of  buying whatever purchase option gives you a steamcode, printing the code, and putting it in a box   B) .

There is the collector edition of sins of a Solar Empire:

 

It has a box.... but it is quite expensive.

Yes, there is NO game key in the collectors edition, you need to buy a seperate one for Sins Rebellion, for example here:

So you have to buy

 

  1. Game Key for Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion
  2. and the - full - collector edition for a box. (Single parts of the Collector Edition come without box)

Then you could gift him the box with a paper with the serial number.

 

Certainly an awesome gift... but an expensive one.... not only you have to buy both key and box, but the shipping cost may be quite high, too, depending on your location.

Thanks, but collectors edition is not an option. Way too expensive, and i want to give him actual game, not a Kol model or mousepad :D

There is no boxed version, and even if there was, Steam would still be required.

have a look at the steelbook from the CE, it has three discs in it, music compilation 1 & 2 AND a game dvd, BUT no steamkey

Does he not already use steam? I'm perfectly fine with people gifting me games on my wish list for celebrations, I don't hold it against them that they never got something physical.

Otherwise, I mean I guess there is always the trinity box...

Why would Stardock waste money on a standard edition box version?

Even then, if you can get the key separate, why not just put it on a card?  Tell him that's the only gift you could afford him before he opens it.  Enjoy the momentary look of disappointment. ^_^

Leads back to my comment, unless you're a triple A publisher, or making a console version, why release it physically?  I wouldn't call Stardock a indy, but they're not AAA, either.  Even being second tier, it's still a waste of money except for special editions.  You get more money from digital distribution than anywhere else, anymore.

To be honest, it is a pretty cheap hard copy, pretty much only serving to get a steam key to you. It comes with version 1.00 on the disk and a Steam key so you still need to go through steam but yeah. There isn't anything interesting in the case besides the cd key and disk.

Haha, no can do. I don't even know if they still sell them, I got mine around Christmas and haven't seen it since. Ebay used to have a healthy stock of them but they are all gone as well from what I can tell. Wouldn't hurt to have a look yourself though. the postage wouldn't be too bad depending on when you need it.

I'm sure there must have been some discussion of this previously, but what the heck was the rationale for creating a hard-copy CE with no CD-key? I've been playing games for upwards of 30 years and I've never heard of this sort of thing before. I kinda like the idea of being able to pick up a nice steelbook and soundtrack CDs for <$10, but why would I pay $50-60 for a CE that doesn't give me the ability to actually play the game? Doesn't this sorta defeat the point of buying a game CE?!

This is where I bought the boxed version.  It's currently showing as unavailable but it would be a place to start looking.  Australia is your last best hope: that and this space station.  Hold the line.  Good luck soldier.
