Does mounted combat gets changed in LH?

in FE choosing units to use mount is a no brainer.there are no drawbacks really.no increased upkeep,no spear doing bonus damage against them,no increased production times,no accuracy penalty when using ranged weapons with mounted units,no disallowing 2h weapons when mounted,no penalty when assaulting fortified cities.when you had access to wargs\horses using them in your designs was always the best idea.the new ability based combat in LH sounds nice but if mounted combat didn't gets changed then all we gonna see is humans using super fast mounted death-stacks to beat the crap out from the AI's random armies.just like in FE.

Nope, I am pretty sure I got my message across loud and clear.

I like the idea of an extra maintenance cost. That seems like an easy, tweakable way to balance with straightforward impact on how to structure your kingdom and strategy.

that whole swarm mechanic thing that is supposed to come with LH might actually serve as a nerf to mounted units. maybe mounted units don't get swarm bonuses and are more vulnerable to being swarmed - so a full cavalry army is actually at a disadvantage against formations of foot soldiers. and i think mounted units might get different weapon style traits - a foot soldier with an axe gets sweep, a rider with an axe perhaps gets a different ability.

that swarm mechanic wouldn't stop mounted archers from dominating.

Historically, they did, but it was very expensive to train them.  Mount+archer needs to have an additional cost associated with it, along with mount+mage.

On mages, I'd like to see the evoker trait, and maybe spellpower trait, raise damage for staves when used by champions.  Right now they're underpowered when used by champs, though very useful for normal troops.  (maybe AI needs to learn to counter-train dodge+magic resist if it sees mages)

So basically if I am understanding what you are saying a horse would incur a +2(just a number for arguments sake) cost for units wages, a bowman would incur a +3 cost and a mage would possibly incur a +4 cost thereby making mounted archers/mages a very expansive unit to maintain thereby balancing their power.  I like it, but it only works if as you said the AI can recognize those units and build counter units.

I am also of the firm belief that spears should have a revenge damage to mounted units.  This is actually possible to do using the extra tagset built by Heavenfall but should be in the game to begin with.  So while spears would not have a huge bonus to attacking mounted units mounted units would be at a LARGE disadvantage when attacking them, which is closer to reality.

here's my idea:make mounted units always smaller than regular foot units.for example:you can train a 3 man foot party but a mounted party become 2 man instead.when you research groups you can train mounted units that consists of 3 man(while your non mounted units can be trained with 4 man).it's always -1 man for mounted units.they could receive a big increase in maintenace costs too.
