Want to upgrade troops with more options

At the moment, when you have new technologies, you can upgrade your existing troops to use new weapons, and new armour.

However, you can not change their group size, nor can you provide them with mounts.

I would very much like these two as options for upgrades for existing troops. It would mean that getting experience on early troops is a lot more valuable if they can be made into stronger troops later, while maintaining some of their experience.

I would suggest that a mount upgrade should cost some gold and the relevant number of horses or warg.

And a group size upgrade should cost possibly a level of experience from the existing troops, and some gold.

Really good ideas - New troops might also need metal/crystal or whatever was used to constructinate them.

Agreed. The upgrade mechanic needs an overhaul anyhow, because parts of it just don't make sense. Often enough, upgrading can totally change the function of the unit, because the upgrade-path deems another weapon or armor superior to what you actually want. This can actually break the unit sometimes, because it isn't designed to wear such heavy arms and armor.

Maybe you could just select a design from your current training options (including player designs) and click to upgrade to that type.  Providing you have the gold/resourses to do it.

The ability to purchase horses for trained units - instead of training a special horseman unit - would make early troops a lot more valuable and it would be nice to mount archers and mages so we have ranged units that can travel at the same speed as the rest of the army.

Agreed, you should be able to take troops in the field and upgrade everything on them (rings, armor, weapons, mounts, etc). Cost should be crystals, materials, and gold.

Increasing group size, however, should come with a cost of experience to the unit.  I have a 3 person army at level 5, and add two green recruits to it, it should drop to level 3.  It's still better than getting a 5 man (green) army from scratch, but there's a tradeoff that doesn't cost crystal/materials/gold.
