You cannot have a Titan factory make more than one Titan, it is hard coded, but you CAN make it so you can build a ship that has an ability that spawns a titan and blows itself up. Edited because I misunderstood the second question.
You can spawn as many as you want with abilities, but you can't use the standard titan construction process.
No, other than compressing the levels (before Rebellion for example, capitalships abilities only had 3 levels for standard and 1 for ultimate, not 4/2, so a level 10 capitalship would have all levels of abilities unlocked).
How do you add the ability to a ship so it fits into the ships buttons?
The 5th ability slot on starbases/caps/titans can only be used for passive abilities or abilities you don't care that humans can't use. And it will give a ton of warnings in the dev.exe even though its perfectly valid.

What do you mean? If you give it an ability it will make a button for it.
On each ship there are buttons for the ability like deploy mines.
Yes, those should show up when you add the ability. There is no extra step to add the button. If they are not there something is wrong.
Edit: Unless it is a titan or starbase. Those are a pain to mod though, I wouldn't start with them. You have to make separate "upgrade" entities.
I can not figure out how to spawn a titan using the suggested method above. Any hints :>)
It's kind of complicated, but you need to use fleet beacons like DarkCombatFleet no matter what.

What are the differences and can I use only one and rename it and add it to the phase gate or titan factory? Then go in and modify the ability and select a titan?
Just make a new ability that uses the same instant action as the DarkCombat/Support/Capitalship abilities. You only need one and put it on the titan factory or whatever.

I put it on the titan factory and a button did not appear to activate it. I added the AbilityDarkTitanShip and made it out of the AbilityDarkCapitalShip. However no button was put on the Titan factory when I added this ability.
Ok update. I put the ability into the right titian factory Rebel and when I place the factory the game crashes. When I take out the ability it works fine. I just renamed the AbilityDarkCapitalShip to AbilityDarkTitanShip and saved it in the mods directory but it seems to crash the game if it is put into the titan factory. What am I doing wrong?
Did you add the files to the entity.manifest file?

Yes, when ever you add a new file you need to add it to the entity.manifest file, this file tells the game which files to load.
I highly recommend you check out some of the guides in the modding forum if you are just learning how to mod.
Ok I did that but now it does not crash but I do not get the button like on the phase gate.
I put Fleetbeacon ability on the factory and it works with a button. I copied fleetbeacon ability and modified it for my ability and put it in the factory and it did not put a button on the factory. I am missing something here.
