Protect/Escort or Defend action button

While creating battle groups helps with fleet cohesion there are times when it would be awesome to just assign ships to a particular task.

For instance.

 

I have 15 Siege ships and as they enter the well I want them to iimmediately take out the planet as a priorty.  I create a battle group with the siege ships as the command unit and then assign Kodaks, Hoshikos and Flaks to escort them in.  I  have to verify if setting the engage range to minimum helps but basically I expect this group to attack the planet, if engaged the Kodiaks should stay close to the Siege ships fending off attackers.  Flak create a no fly zone by them, hoshikas focus on repairing them, etc.

 

Being able to tell a bunch of ships to basically protect this group would save the micromanaging time and introduce new strategies.

 

If someone has found an eloquant way of doing this, please let me know.

If you want protect your siege ship, you must create a fleet, and the fleet captain must be a siege ship, now set Radius formation CLOSE, then the units will pursue the siege ship, and remain with it all time. Now if any enemy ship want attack you siege ships, the escorts will defend it

 

If you set a kodiak or other ship as fleet captain, the siege ship will pursue the fleet captain and no bombardment the planet with escorts, and only will attack the planet when he will close to the planet, and in range of the fleet formation.
