Occupation still useless in singleplayer

I looked but didn't see anything about this. Sorry if this has been posted. I was stoked when I read the patch notes that the occupation game mode was fixed to work better in single player. Just finished a game with 7 hard AI. I took the planet. The AI did nothing.

Also, I think 20 minutes to win is way too short. If we consider the length and scale of this game, that is a relatively short amount of time.

Yeah, did that myself. The only remaining enemy was more interested in a common Asteroid i owned than the occupied planet. And lost several capitals ships and a lot of cruiser to the automated defenses without causing any damage that would have costed me

Hell, that asteroid didn't even have a starbase! How can you lose three capital ships to beam platforms?! o_O

I also agree that the countdown is too short. Increase it to about the same as the victory research takes? (~45minutes)

Thats going to be something that is hard to code, also alot of the times its just the current map sets are not made for occupation. For example, occupation implies that you mass up a fleet, and take the planet. Well you cannot do that because people would rather kill you and finish the game than actually capture the occupied world. So what is implied is, this game mode supports small FFA's play, on maps were players cannot easily gain access to other players worlds. I made two maps in galaxy forge made for this. One was were you separate the two(or more) players by star(maybe give the Jump relic on their home worlds(not not;P)). I also made a 1v1 map that separated the players by a set of pirate bases so that they could take valuable worlds while they macro out an army. The actual army size I have not been able to determine however.

But changes that need to happen is.

  • Give an alert for when the occupied planet comes under attack/when it is captured. This will help remind people this game is about taking the world, not killing the other players.
  • Make Stock maps that are small, made for FFA, and focus on macroing and small amounts of aggression.

I know these are mainly multiplayer changes but they do apply in the same case.As we dont play it in multiplayer either.
