MP Request: Hide Display of Losses

Stats ruin the fun...

I enjoy the Rebellion beta very much so far but now that the Steam account is bound to your stats (unlike Trinity, where you could create as many profiles as you want). In the old days of the original SoaSE I used to play a lot of 2v2 teaming up with a mate. We were friendly towards other players and weren't even playing that good. Soon we were accumulating a lot of wins and almost never lost. People were afraid of our W-D ratio and often left our games right away. So we started to use fresh profiles from time to time so people would play with us more often.

As you all know, the Sins multiplayer community is still rather small. Because it took an insanely long time to get matches going we quit playing after some months. We would love to start again now. But with the same old stats system around I'm really afraid that we end up just like we did some years ago. So...

Suggestion #1: Hide the losses from the public. W-L ratio won't scare people away.

Suggestion #2: Only show the number of matches played. Newbies will be accepted after playing some games.

Suggestion #3: Hide all stats. People won't kick noobs and players wouldn't be scared of each other (I don't think that the community can afford to do so anyway because of its size).

Suggestion #4: Allow alternative profiles again. I guess I don't have to explain.

Also, no other game these days relies on such a stats system. What do you think about this issue?

THe current stat system is complete crap. Losses are completely meaningless, same with wins, as you can just play against AI to stack your wins, or play against ai and hit the surrender button to stack the losses.

It really should be replaced with a ELO style point system instead, which only updates when playing a game with no AI's involved.

As far as your suggustions, forcing players to not be able to reset their win/loss is a fantastic improvement. People would often create new profiles and act as noobs in the lobby to severly stack the teams, and basicly ruin games. I think you will find with the new much higher player counts, that for legitimate players who are not assholes, the benifits significantly outweigh any downsides.

You can stack wins by playing vs. AIs? Okay, that's really stupid. One more reason to scrap the entire stats system.

I agree. I've gotten some free wins after doing some testing against AI's(not alot of wins but still).

Feels bad man :/

Not to mention noobs who refuse to quit after game has been decided... you have to either quit or clean up map, wasting ~1h of your life.

That's totally unrelated to this issue.

Well, I would be fine with an elo system - anything but the current one.

Maybe they should just scrap the W/L record and only record games played vs humans as an indicator of a player's experience.

With current system as it is at least you can guess skill lvl when player has 50+ games played. No one except quar perhaps has will to fake score for 50+ or even 100+ games.

If you scrap current statistic as flawed ad it is smurfs yet again get free reign and ICO count will drop yet again.

resetting everything wouldnt be that bad, everyone would be on equal footing, id be for it.

in terms of score but not in terms of skill.

You just wouldnt be able to tell who is skilled and who is not.

Forcing people to participate in your Elo system is retarded.  If the game didn't give you auto-win when all human players left the game, I would run 100% loss record on purpose.

Impossible to fix until there's a ladder system.  Then competitive players can have proper stat tracking, while the non-ladder players can have all stats but 'games played' removed.  I completely agree that it's stupid to have visible stat-tracking for non-ladder games, as this leads to all kinds of stupidity and frustration.

However I am completely glad to see more RTS' finally putting their foot down on smurfing.  It is such a cowardly, cancerous thing that kills communities.

As others have stated you can win vs AI or just lose against them.

As someone who does not play MP but has considered it, I will state that your win/loss record means absolutely nothing to me. My own record, however, does weigh in alot on such a decision.
