export into .mesh file using too long time

hey, everyone, i just want to import macross SDF-1 into diplomacy. i got the .3ds file, set everythings as usual, and export it into .mesh file.   It is 7 hours now, only finished 10%. The file is 52mb. so how to deal with this problem.
  im using 3d max 2012 64bit, 3ds maxtool 1.1 (download here)
  my CPU: AMD x4 840

when it was compiling, only one core of cpu was working to 100%, another three is almost 0%, and the total cpu usage is no more than 25%

how big is that SDF-1 file?  For a good SDF-1, it has to be pretty high polygon.

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/419658 check there about half down the main post for area on models.

that sdf-1 file is about 50mb.

which one i should download? i am using 3D MAX 2012 and wanna transfer .max into .mesh

i tried 3d maxtool 2.0a, but there was an error when i export mesh, then i choose maxtool 1.1

is there another way to export to .mesh file?

how many polygons? You might want to reduce the polycount to 5,000 to 7,500.

you have to use XSI to convert to mesh format.

Well come to modding, taking a long time just to one task, once you are done, takes another long period time to process it.

I think someone made a script to go from .3ds to .mesh, but the model converter the Devs used converts .xsi to .mesh. Generally people do the main model in 3DS Max, save it to a intermidate file type like .obj, import it into the XSI mod tool for the finishing touches of setting the mesh points, hooking up textures, and tangents, then save to .xsi so the converter can convert it to .mesh.

If you directly tried to convert a .3DS file, I'm shocked it didn't immediately crash on you...

I used PathTooDeep. And was very pleased with its performance. Long Path Tool is awesome to get rid on your long path files. Good luck!
