Titans

The Titan Discussion Thread

Please post whatever you want Titans to be able to do, as well as other Titan ideas and/or topics.

EDIT:  The Beta is out, with more soon to follow.  This thread used to be for what we wanted Titans to be, but now it is for what they are.  Post what you think about the Titans.  (everything before page four is from before the beta came out)

EDIT 2:  The Beta is long over, but the balancing and tweaks have just begun.  This thread began as an idea and news thread primarily, and then it was for what the Titans were, and how they could be improved.  Now, it is a thread for Titan counters, opinions about abilities, and things like that.  Anything Titan.

I think we are a bit too focused on the active abilities and ultimate ablities.

Titans also have a number of passive ablities. These things will be spamming out both active and providing passive ones.

I assume the Athena (loyal TEC titan) will have something like this

- Targetting boost (Akkan)

- Supply (SB)

- Mass repair

- Armor and Shield boosts

Something along those lines. I do not supper the whole titan should be FACTORY deal. We have to keep SB's relavent in some way. Give them everything that a SB has and make it mobile than the usage of SBs after a Titan is built is phased out except when the emeny doesn't have one.

I'm assuming he means the docking booms ability on the TEC SB...don't know about the 2nd part...

That Vasari Titan as mobile Homeworld, is that merely suggestion or is is really going to be ingame? Is this going to be the same titan - the loyalist one - which is apparently capable of destroying planets (would make sense, as they do not need planets themselves, they may as well destroy them to cripple others), or is this meant to be the Rebel titan?

Yankee style or traditional?

I always enjoy a good nomad race.  That's why the Vasari Titan homeworld thing sounds so cool.  Though I wonder, what do they do before they get their Titan?  Here is my Idea: They can have two homeworlds; one a planet and the other a Titan.  If they had only their Titan, then their resoure gathering woulg stink, so they would have to have planets or at least other stuff to compensate.

Or they can work like marauding parties on TW, very powerful militarily but dirt poor on resources, able to ransack a vast amount from a single planet, but able to burn through it quickly too. They started with worlds and were content, but with the titan in motion, they need to strip mine to make end's meet. They can settle planets, but their loyalty blows as most of their better logistics crewman are working to plow a way through the enemy ranks and escape.

Probably once a planet is destroyed by that Vasari (I assume loyalist) titan, the resource asteroids remain. I am guessing the titan as a home planet is only going to give the Vasari player a credit income advantage, which makes the most sense to me.

That would let the Vasari have more resources.  Because the resource asterois remain, and no one but the Vasari (hopefully) can build extracters on them.

But still, you would need to compact every single turret you can't build, and every factory, and research stations, into that one Titan, because you can't build stuff around planets you don't control, and they would need to be on the Titan.  He would need to be strong, because if he is destroyed, you lose. Unless you do have planets, and when it says "pack up and move", it is just your Titan, and he can deploy somewhere else. Or your Titan can build buildings in gravity wells that use to contain planets, like other factions do, except they need a planet there. And like I said earlier, what do they do before they get their Titan, because it is something that has to be built, and they would need a planet.

I do think the resource extractors should be captureable by other players, otherwise this marauding titan would become way too overpowered.

Also, I think the player that owns that titan will start off normally with a home planet. Maybe just when the titan has been built, the race no longer needs planets anymore to be able to survive. Though having no planets is of course a huge risk.

I would like to see Advent Titans with Mass Disorientation ability, like Transcencia Star Bases have. Perhaps with longer durations.

Does anyone like cornbread?

I just instantly became hungry for jalapeno cornbread.  Thanks a lot.

Bastard! And I thought I was hungry before.

I like cornbread.  Especially with beans.  Maybe Titans should make cornbread.

But anyway, here is a pic that I found on another thread:

What do you think of it? Also, what do you think the disk above the Titan is?  I think that it is a form of the Titan where the Titan is folded up, into a flying saucer type thing.  It may move faster in this state, or have better shields.  What do you think?

This is actually the Advent titan that also appeared in the trailer already. Though as you can see, it's appearance has been altered dramatically.

What about the disk, though? That is what I want to dicuss.

From what I've seen, the disc is a part of the ship and a wave apparently bursts outward from it. Perhaps a weapon similar to Mass Disorientation or something that does a large AoE damage.

That disc is used for devastating capital ships and who knows what else dares to attack that titan. It has nothing to do with that shockwave ability that is show in the teaser trailer (if you look closely, you see that the disc doesn't light up when that ability is activated). Proof for the beam weapon is shown below (remember this one?):

Advent Titan Shooting Beam Weapon

It looks like the tip of the energy triangle/circle, from which the brightest beam originates, is the disk. Is that what you mean? In the top right corner.

Yea, that's what I mean. They kind of removed the inside of the disc and replaced it with a floating circle, it seems. In that image, you see what happens when that circle is activated. It shoots a beam from the top of is after creating a triangle of beams inside the circle. Looks really cool if you ask me.

One problem though: The Titans look nothing alike.  How could the disc be with both of them?

They do not look alike because the image you posted shows only concept art. Concept art just gives a general idea of what the designers want the object to look like in the game. It's final design hardly ever looks the same as the concept art, as you can see in the image I posted above.

Still there is NO resemblance, except the color.
