Want to get a new Lappy...

One that can run Sins properly, that is

Hey, peoples!

Alright, I realize that this probably isn't the place to ask this, but, hear me out for a second.

As the title says, I'm looking around for a new lappy that, when I get some money, will be able to run Sins properly.  Don't get me wrong, Sins does indeed run on it - but apparently, according to the "Can you run it?" website (link is here), I'm missing a hardware component called "vertex shader," amongst other things.

Currently, I've got a 2007 Sony Vaio, Model FE890 (I THINK that's the right number), and as mentioned, Sins just BARELY runs on it (though I need that 3D thingie for it to run properly, as noted).

Ideally,I'm looking for a lappy under $1000 ($1500 is my ABSOLUTE limit) with the following:

2.2 GHz Processor (I have 1.8 currently, which works alright, but 2.2 is recommended)
512 MB
Hardware T&L (something else I'm missing, apparently)
Pixel Shader 3.0 (2.0 currently - again, it works, but 3.0 is recommended)
Vertex Shader 3.0 (Not even on my lappy, as noted)
3 Gigs of RAM (FO3 only requires 2, but SupCom, which I also would like to play, requires 3)
Doesn't have to be Alienware (preferably not, actually - I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on it), but MUST NOT BE DELL

I think I've found a couple of newer Sony Vaios that meet these standards, but I don't really know for sure.

Do you guys have any input for some other lappys that I should look at?

Thanks for your time, guys.

Salutations and Regards,
Warlord Mike

Well.. alienware is dell.

Your current set up isnt too bad at all. Here is the link for your specs.

It seems to me that you should already have pixel shader 3.0 with what i assume is a 7600 nvidia card.

I assume that you have 2gigs of ram, a dual core cpu and running vista. A few hundred mhz on a cpu wont hardly make a noticeable difference, but a newer cpu core and gpu core will.

Even a quad core cpu 4gigs of ram and a high end video card still get slow downs with Soase.

Upgrading to a new laptop you will get a better operating system, probably more ran and a faster video card, but a higher resolution that is more taxing on your video card while gaming.

So if you are getting a gaming type laptop, i would get no less then a 17" and get an asus, or iif you want an less expensive and lower video card, go with toshiba.

Here is a link to a decent asus, but the more you shop around, the better laptop you will find.

Sony are over rated and take unique parts and many computer repair places wont touch them (sony wont let them while under warranty) Get something that you can upgrade easily.

I have an Intel(R) GMA 950 card - I got the lappy at Costco, as an aside, and I have NO idea how to read video cards, as-is... ^_^'

Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Display Adapter you need ATI or nVidia mentioned there, your Intel is just onboard Graphics and will run boardgames fine but nothing intensive at high resolution and high frame rates. Intel is sharing the Graphics and processing.

Search for gaming laptops and get a cooling pad, a metal one and keep the laptop in a dust free environment and keep clean internally, checking fans and ducts constantly as it will run hot and can fry easily if you persist in gaming intensively with dust bunnies living in your laptop.

Asus, MSI give most per buck - MSI just released i7, 8gb Ram, USB3.0 choice of HD and Graphics here in Europe for $1500 top of range US site for MSI gaming laptops is here.

Thanks for all the input, guys - I'm hoping I land an internship (mech. engineering, here I come!) this summer, and if I do, I hope that I'll earn enough cash to get me a new lappy with the earnings.

hmm... anything with dell on it is bad, to bad you can't customize them as much as a desktop computer or get as much power.
