SoundPackager Crashes At Installation & Startup But Found A Fix [Win7, x64]

SoundPackager Crashes At Installation & Startup But Found A Fix [Win7, x64]

I upgraded to Object Desktop from WB7 yesterday and everything installed fine excpet SoundPackager.

During installation, I got two error messages that's got to do with "regsvr32". After the installation, when

I ran SP, it just crashed. Since I know a little programming, I know that "regsvr32" is used to register DLL's

and OCX'es so I went into SP's installation directory and tried to find some problem DLL's or OCX'es. Apart

from the .NET DLL's, I found the DirectSkin control wbocx32.ocx. Since I remembered seeing it in the Impulse

folder too, I checked the version of the ocx in the SP folder (5.0.0.0) and found it to be lower than the one

in the Impulse folder (5.0.6.1) or the one in the Tweak7 folder (5.0.6.3). So I renamed the ocx in SP folder

to "wbocx32.ocx.bak" and copied the one from Impulse folder into the SP folder. Now, I can run SP without any

crashes. I hope this will help those facing similar problems. I'm running Windows 7 x64.

I too am having difficulty with Sound Packager running.  My info screen says that windows is looking for a solution and then goes away.

The most common issue that would cause SoundPackager to crash is having a corrupt theme installed. Try moving the themes from the following location:

     XP:     C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager or C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USER NAME]\My Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager
     Vista/7:  C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager or C:\Users\[YOUR USER NAME]\Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager

Once you do this, relaunch the application. Then, move one of the themes you have installed back into it's default location.  Repeat this until the application crashes.  If/when it does, delete the theme that was just moved, as it is most likely the cause of the issue.

My problem seems a little different as I'm not getting any error message, everything appears to have worked and even shows up as being installed but I only get the default sounds. I've got a feeling this is more of a bug with windows7 64 than soundpackager. I know it not a corrupt sound package as I tried one that came with it before I tried another.

P.S I'm not to annoyned about this as I feel I'd had WAY more than what i've paid for with the free objectdock, cursorfx +++ and all the skins etc nice people upload. so a big thanks to the skinning community in general.

where is this impulse folder you speak of?

where do i get the file to replace the one in sp folder?
This is a five year old thread. Impulse has long since been sold off and is not part of Stardock . If you have issues with SoundPackager, first make sure you are running the latest version. If so, you should contact support@stardock.com for assistance and start a trouble ticket.
