No reward for losing

As a frequent loser, its becoming frustrating that I get nothing for hanging in there and still playing.  I just toughed out a 50 minute Crucible loss, which was clearly a loss at the 20 minute mark (panteon so we had 2 rooks, and the UB could run from the pass to the only flag and kill either of us before we could seize the flag).  I got 10 points for not rage quitting. . . .

Frankly you seem to be penalized for exploring in the game.  You can't resell prestige items, so the casual gamer is punished if they don't choose the conventional build/items.

If you want to keep casual gamers, come up with some sort of rewards.  Throw me some titles (x number of losses without quitting), a few extra prestige for giving the winners a satisfying win, maybe even handicap a little if I really suck.  But you need to come up with something to keep the casual people invested in the game, or you'll just end up with a hard core professional crowd.

I like the idea. How about an achievement: Spartan worrior? :)

PS: Found the perfect picture for it too:

I've found most people seem agreeable to people quitting when its an obvious loss. Thats not rage quitting, thats conceding.

Just allspeak something like "Ok guys, I think we're going to lose this one, i'm going to go ahead and quit out. gg."

Once the concede option is in place, this won't even matter.

Also, single player is what exploring the game is for. If you've never played a character, do it once or twice in single player. Your teammates will thank you.

The only problem is if the entire losing team quits when they are obviously losing, then the winning team gets no favor points at all. So even hearing, "GG, you guys won" and then quitting is BAD.

So, no, I'm not ok with people leaving when it's an obvious loss, and I don't do it myself. I always stick it out to the end, because to do otherwise would be screwing over the winners.

However, I will tell the people whipping my butt to hurry the heck up. Some winners like to loiter around getting the best gear, etc etc. Destroy the citadel already!

There does not need to be rewards to losing, there just needs to be a concede option, which, I believe, is in the 1.1 patch.

I think your on to something about losing and getting no credit.  I don't think the game punishes you for exploring though.  You have custom games applenty to go explore.  Why take risks when your getting ranked?  Every game type has a purpose, Pantheon just is not where you would go in and try something off the hook brand new.  Just my opinion.

That being said, I do hate that in Pantheon, if you stick it out and really play well, you get dinged on your ranking.  I had a 2v1...  I was the 1, where I lost the game, but ended up having more favor points than both the other two combined.  Mostly because I was Rook, and was just killing more and caping more flags on a per Demigod basis.  That game went into my ranking as a loss, and the other two players were just mediocre.

It would be nice if the favor points had something to do with your player ranking.

Well the problem with single player is that very little of it is relevant to multiplayer strategy (I'm great against the AI . . . ) so there is a bit of a barrier to exploration of the prestige items.  I'm not saying its a game killer, but its there.

I was just trying to come up with positive reinforcement ideas rather than negative reinforcements.  I like the Spartan tag!

A handicap that the other team could vote to give you would be cool. Kind of like a "Ok, we're kicking butt here, lets even it out a little."

I've been in a couple games that we were just Dominating the other team, felt kind of bad really. Some kind of team-vote way to give them a boost would be neat, like +1000 hp, or tougher creeps, or whatever.

Agreed that AI strategy is rubbish against real people, but its good at least for learning what skills do what, that kind of thing.  Related topic: Is there some way to give yourself a buttload of favor points in single player? Would like to test out some favor items but dont really play enough to have enough to burn them on crap.

There needs to be more defenses on your side of the map or something. I mean.. the towers are nice.. but their AI sucks.. they target randomly. If towers always targetted DGs over creeps that'd be a start. Other than that maybe passive regen/ move aura when you are close to your citadel. As it is now.. if you're on the losing side.. there's really nothing that can actually tip things around. Once a wave of creep reaches a tower, enemy DGs can fight you as if the tower wasn't there and you'll run (since you've been losing and are undergeared) and they'll finish the tower and move closer and closer. Can't think of much you could do about it. Even if you had 3 evenly matched team.. and one just started off on a bad foot and was a bit behind. There's no real way to rally anything.

I agree loosers should be able to get more favor.... i played ~10 games today. 9 of them against new players.

The best of all of them had something like 20 favor^^

But on the other hand... maybe the new players should so some noob costum games instead of throwing a coin and end up with release players.

@Darthkilmor you can create a skirmish with costum options... i did this for some testing.

- game speed fast

- creeps strong

- towers weak

- war rank 10

- gold -> filthy rich

- starting level 20

start the game and buy giants. with this options you can win a match in less than 2 minutes. It's also worth to create a game with every char so you gain the archivments for win a game and reaching lvl 20

have a nice day ;)

Reportedly the favor for Participation is being increase by a decent amount.

if people want favor that much they would fight noobs with a good team

Well If you want decent favor when you are on the losing team just get the most upgrades in cid etc. I've gotten 70 favor while being on the team that lost, but I don't see a problem with obtaining at least 50 favor for finishing a map. Only 10 favor for finishing a map even if you loss is annoying when it was a 50 minute match.

Team concede should be here by the end of the month.  I don't get pissed when people quit if they get a 2v1 pantheon or get stuck with an AI due to dropping.  If that happens, just tell them gg... I have an AI and drop.  I just trashed someone tonight who chose to tough it out with an AI... it surely wasn't fun for him and wasn't for me, so I think concede will help us all out.  Also, hopefully its getting easier for all of us to get into games, so dropping if you have 0 chance of winning (due to AI or 2v1) shouldn't be that big a deal (as you hopefully won't have to spend the next 20 minutes trying to get into another game)... but you should let all know why you are dropping.  I'm really glad people are willing to fight it out, but if its crystal clear there is no chance in hell, then I certainly wouldn't get pissed with anyone dropping.

All of that said, some sort of bonus would be good by way of favor points IMO for those who do stick around (better than the 5 or 10 you are guaranteed).

sorry for the double post... if you are just playing against AI at the start of the game (as in 1v1 ai or 1v2ai, etc), you don't get favor... at the end of the game it will look like you did, but no favor will be saved... however, that would work in single player, though.

The favor system is pretty confusing, but that is how it works online.

Participation favor should be related to length of the match.  So you'd get more points for staying and holding out longer.  Would hopefully discourage quitting when losing and encourage people to play their best right to the end.
