How meaningful are the player rankings at pantheon.demigodthegame.com?

How meaningful are the player rankings?

And whereabouts is the line of competence and the line of suckitude? If a player is ranked, say, oh I don't know, just pulling a number out of a hat, 659, what does this mean in terms of how good or bad he is?

Meaningless.  People can simuljoin and hope to get matched with buddies, and quit before the game starts if they don't get matched with the people they want.

Not to mention win/loss stats themselves are FUBAR.  Since you can't trust them, you can't trust pantheon stats either.

They mean absolutely nothing. So many of my losses are from me just quitting for a number reasons:
Someone quits in the first 5 minutes - Everyone agrees for a rehost
All my opponenets quit - If I want to bash a.i I will play singleplayer
One person quits, and due to direct connect, half the players are disconected.

It also varies widely on who you play and who you play with. For example an amazing player may be playing with Pugs only, and so due to bad team mates he may lose 50% of his games.

However, another player who is average and worst then player A, may be playing with set teams and so have a much greater winning ratio.

Demigod isnt really like a normal RTS where ladders are based mostly of 1v1's and indivual skills - winning/losing in Demigod can be all about how good/bad your team mates are and how well you gel with them.

Ontop of that, so many games are reported completely wrong with this stat system (being updated in 1.01?).

player rankings mean little at the moment for more than one reason

but they mainly mean little because there's no supported "league" play in a team-centric game.  a privately supported league would mean more than patheon or custom rankings.

They not complete BS. They are not competely accurate, but not complete BS.

If someone is ranked high, they are prolly decent, however, if someone is ranked low, they are not nessecarily bad.

The way warcraft three handles ladders is absolutely stellar. I don't see the need for third-party rankings when amazing in-game systems have already been shown to work to great success.

Of course... we don't have anything close to that nice with Demigod (yet?) so that makes this point lean towards to moot side.

I'd estimate half my losses are due to disconnects and the game freezing up.  My ratio is about 4:1 so when I get a loss from something like this it pisses me off.

when I look at my account then I must admit the stats are accurate.

Every online game I played is listed, every result is true, every game has the correct participants inside (even the weird games where I played against a minority).

The stats are accurate and the website hosting the stats is awesome... never seen anything like it.

But since too many games were subject to connection issues, the stats are hardly an indicator for skill.  AI battles, dropped players, etc.

I'm not too bad but I'm a but puzzled about my ranking.

i may be wrong but i think that tomorrow's patch is supposed to solve the games not recorded problem (and the rankings will be reseted once they are accurate)

Here's a good example of the great record keeping:

Here's a particular favorite of mine because I specifically remember winning this game:

http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/471087/player/34211/

Another game I definitely won:

As you can see, the stats are far from working.

Rankings are pure BS

In the first weak i lost the first 3 games, then i had 6 games against AI on phanteon and was ranked on #1000~

so i lost EVERY game against human but had a better ranking than 20k other people.... lol.

A few of my wins are missing from my list, but for the most part, it's fairly accurate for me. I would say that my ranking is accurate, because of the way I coordinate my teams. Most of my lossess could have been prevented had I led better, and most of my wins come some part from good teamwork and coordination. Of course, this applies to me because I almost always take the wheel for my team. It really depends on how you play. It's indicative of how your team works together, and if you're a team player or leader, then that's indicative of your skill.

I have games I've lost recorded as wins, and vice versa.

Yeah I thought i was all cool with being Ranked 2 as Rook but I don't care now. The ranking system is messed up too.
